Too Soon To Plant Flowers/Tomatoes?

I live in a high-rise condo in Chicago and with the 75-85 degree weather we've been having, I'm getting antsy to plant my flowers and tomato plants in pots. Should I wait until the 'advised' planting month of May or can I get an early start? I spend about $25 on plants so if I lost them it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd rather not waste the time and money if they're likely to freeze.

Step away from that spot for your plants. Step back. Breath in. Breath out. Have some coffee (or whatever you like to drink) and calm down. Don't let this weather fool you. Spring is playing tricks on us. It's still coming, just slipped a delusion on us. Really, wait for that Advised date.I know, I know, I wanna too, but we know better. ;)

    Hi BC

It is a little too early for you to be planting tomatoes outside. I am in North MS and we are just now putting them out. Our last frost date is about April 4th but the 10 day forecast has us from 75 to 84 all next week so it looks like we are in the clear.

I think I'd wait a couple more weeks for sure if I was you. Of course you could plant one or two like Early Girl and see what happens.

    Hope this helps

If your tomato plants get below 45 - 50 degrees, they will develop more slowly than if you waited until the usual date of May 15 - 20th in your area. You could put some in a smallish pot and bring them inside your condo on cold nights sure to come.

Tomatoes? I would wait on those - I'm in 84 degree Detroit, but it can't possibly stay this warm at night for the next few months (right?!?!) If you can pull them indoor at night I would say "sure" - but that is probably too much of a hassle. Tropicals (tomatoes, most container flowers) don't like it less than 55 (at best) I'm gonna wait a few weeks.

nicely in case you water them actual and provides them a minimum of an hour of solar per day, they ought to commence sprouting in about a week or so, yet do not assume to work out any feathers until eventually 3 weeks, oh and maximum heavily! do not pluck them until eventually totally ripe otherwise the budgies received't savor that. I heard a tale about a lady who grow to be plucking her budgies upfront each and each of the time and all her budgies formed a violent mutiny, she remains in the health facility convalescing

Sounds like you've got a bad case of spring fever --- me too. But you should make yourself wait until May. I've been fooled by false springs before. Lovely spring days that seem endless; then it snows!

start growing them inside, then when you're fully sure that freezing danger has gone plant them outside.
