why don't people just google their questions?

though yes its fast and wide not everything can be found with a simple google search. i once searched hours for the name of an astronaut featured in the intro to a show. gave up, asked here and had the answer in about 5 minutes other then that often the asker is seeking more then just facts they want opinions and viewpoints concerning their topic

First, if you had googled this, you would have found 1000 or more versions of this question. With many questions, you are correct. However, a question like "Who was the backup center for the Celtics in 1968?" may take some searching and you may need to go through dozens of web pages in your search. Ask that same question on YA and within 24 hours, you have the exact answer, with no effort from several Celtic fans.

A student working on a paper may ask, "What were the causes of the Civil War?". The google result for that is totally overwhelming. On YA, a brief, clear paragraph that will suit the student's need may be obtained, if lucky.

Think of it this way. Google does not provide answers. Google provides information for a person to determine the answer themselves. On YA, a person tells you the answer directly, no thinking. It works like when you were a kid and you said "Mom, how do you spell xxx?" and Mom said "Look it up in the dictionary !!" Mom if she answered with the spelling was YA, the dictionary is google. Same concept.

    Hi Earl.

On Google, if you search in for example a mental health question on "Google" it could come up all sorts of problems.

People on here could be retired doctors or Counselors, and maybe they could make better suggestions on what a person might have.If that makes any sense!

Earl, why did you make a Y!A account on here, if you could just Google your question?

I actually do google a lot of my questions...and some of the best answers are from old yahoo answers questions.

Usually when I type a question into google, it just directs me to a question from YA.

Because people probably want a personal response to their question and not some generic answer for everybody.

I was just thinking that. Sometimes I have personal questions that google is too retarded to know, though.

I think that they are lazy to go and search the web / because the answers are not directly.

Why did you not Google this?

Because some people are stupid. There is no other explanation.
