Have you ever forgotten to put your clock forward/back?

With us having to put our clocks forward 1 hour this weekend, have you ever forgotten to do it, and if so did anything happen because you forgot?

Many years ago, my aunt was walking to church on the Sunday morning dressed in her Sunday best. She said later that she did wonder how she didn't see anyone else walking to church. She arrived at the church door to be met by all the congregation coming out. She had forgot to put her clock forward an hour. She didn't half feel a fool, ha ha.

That happened to me as a child. I showed up at Sunday School as they were letting out. There are some clocks I haven't changed because I can't remember how to do it, esp. the one in the car. Well, next fall it'll be right again.

No, I've never had that problem, but consider this -

In the UK we put our clocks forward by one hour on the last Sunday in March, soon after the Spring equinox, which is fine.

Why, then, don't we put our clocks back on the last Sunday in September just after the Autumn equinox? Instead, we wait another full month before changing the clocks back, resulting in unnecessarily dark mornings in October.

    How crazy is that?

We forgot many years ago. We had just moved to

the foothills and enjoyed walking, hiking, etc.

We got up Monday morning to get ready for work

and my husband always turned on the Today Show.

He couldn't figure out why Captain Kangaroo was on!

I was always secretly a little smug about it -- I know

that's not very nice. But we were so busy enjoying living

in the foothills that we never turned on tv or looked at a

clock that evening. Wish life was always like that.

They must have a very short service at the church where your aunt attends.

I have never forgotten to do it but I've known people actually turn up at church one hour EARLY when the clocks go the other way.

There was once when I forgot to change. Went to the supermarket early morning and timed my journey to arrive 10 min after the store opened, so I thought. I couldn't understand why the car park was empty. That was a very long 50 min wait for the doors to open.

I believe that whole idea is pointless now. The farmers can get up an hour earlier or later if they need to for their fields. As for me, I know the Earth tilts and can plan my day accordingly. However my clocks are all self setting, so it's not an issue.

Not forgotten, but always wait until next day to put my

chiming Granny clock forward or back. She is quite

temperamental. My other clocks are self-setting by

    radio signal.

I was listening to the clock repairer/horologist at Windsor Castle

speaking about his job, he has several hundred clocks to re-set

every Spring/Autumn and he said it takes him two days to do.

I did that many years ago, I opened the gates for customers and employees and couldn't figure out where everyone was at.

On my pick up my wife commented that the clocks time was right again when the time changed! I hadn't noticed it was never set.

No I have had no problem with turning my clock back or forward. I had problems trying to land a 36 inch northern pike yesterday and finally had to cut the line, next time I'll bring a net.

When I rented rooms to foreign students - it so happened....a Chinese student arrived on 20 September. Same day as my 2nd son's birthday - and day we put our GMT clocks BACK.

Visiting Son No 2 - I invited said new Chinese student to join me on the trip to London - and explained our change of GMT clock. She nodded, grinned, said OK, OK apparently grasping what I'd tried to explain to her.

We got back home late on the Sunday evening - and I was more than surprised to find her at 7-30 am on the Monday morning - bright-eyed & bushy-tailed - just about to march off to the local English Language Tuition College.

    'Quo vadis - whither goest thou - wot r up 2 ?" - I queried - using all my multi-lingo prowesses.

Lotus Blossom claimed it would only take her 20 minutes to walk to the College - and she wanted to be AT LEAST 10 minutes early.

"But if you leave now - Blossom - you're going to arrive at College 1 hour too early" I pointed out.

Hmm - more than a few things got LOST in the translation.

Turned out - Blossom thought our trip to London crossed a time-zone - so whilst adjusting her watch BACK an hour en route to London - she then put it FORWARD an hour - when arriving back at base.

So her 8.30 am Monday morning was actually 7.30 am (GMT - adjusted)

Blossom seemed to think it was we English muddle-makers who made the lives of Chinese visitors more complicated than needs be - but 12 months later - returning to Shanghai, she knew how to adjust her watch - in accordance with Greenwich Mean Time.

    ; )))
