Joke question: Why are atheists using the Religion and Spirituality section of YA if they are not religious?

Some are here to insult and be immature (but I have seen people of faith who fall into that same category). Some are here to dialogue with theists of various faiths.

It is an open forum and they have just as much right to be here as Jews, xtians, muslims etc etc. Sometimes I find their questions or answers interesting. Sometimes they make me think and sometimes they just make me roll my eyes.

I would rather debate an atheist than an evangelical xtian who just tells me I am going to hell and I don't understand the Torah and they have to help me interpret it and jesus loves me etc etc. That just annoys the snot right out of me

You have no concept of this forum then. It's for DISCUSSING religion and spirituality. One does not need to profess a belief in anything in order to discuss.

Firstly who says someone doesn't know about the topic? many atheists were raised in a religious home and many of them still have family in those religions. Atheism doesn't mean ignorance. Furthermore MANY Christians don't know their own scripture so I wouldn't be pointing fingers. Lastly, you can't know everything about a specific topic. Especially in a religion full of mystery, it means there is still things to learn. If you think you got it down pat, I feel sorry for you because it's apparent you DON'T KNOW YOUR OWN RELIGION AT ALL!

Believe it or not asking the right atheist about religion can sometimes be better than asking a religious person. Because alot of time atheist know much about MANY religions. and are not biased to one or the other. Now you got your other half that are idiots.

The problem with most religious zealots is that they want us to study their books so we can understand their point of view, but when we offer our point of view or books which represent our points of view, we are shunned and scorned by the so called "religious" groups.

I find religions interesting on an academic and historical level. I don't need to be religious in order to have this interest.

You are incorrect to assume that atheists don't know anything about religion. In fact, atheists in general are BETTER informed about religion than their religious counterparts.
