Does using WLAN affect internet speed?
Me and my brother use the wifi a lot in our house and we're to have a LAN party on his birthday with his friends at home in a few weeks time. My dad will also be using the internet during that time to check emails and usual browsing.
We will have an estimated amount of 8 people on the network, including me and my brother.
Will our party have an affect on the internet speed while my dad is just doing his browsing?
And if it's any help, the modem is connected to my dad's computer.
Thanks guys!

Using your
Wireless
Local
Area
Network
devices on your network will have some impact on internet browsing speed
for your dad.
If your dad is only checking email, the impact will be negligible. It could impact it if large
graphics need to be downloaded or large files. Other than that, unless 8 of you are trying
to watch online TV or play an action game or download files all at the same time, it should not
be a noticeable slowdown.
If you have wireless, you have more than a modem. You either have a wireless router, or you
have a device you and your ISP may be calling a modem that is REALLY a modem and router
combination.
Your dad's computer , as a wired connection probably has a faster connection than the wireless.
Wired connections are usually 100 mbps or 1 gigabit per second {1000mbs} and wireless connections are usually around 54 mbps although newer {less than 2 year old routers and adapters}
can connect at 150 mbps or 300 mbps under ideal conditions. All of that is faster than the
1.5 mbps to 12 mbps provided for your internet connection. Email and Text web browsing only
need about 56 kbps.
