Archery arm guards: forearm vs. whole arm?

I have one similar to this: http://www.shopatron.com/products/productdetail/Ma...

It just covers my forearm. But quite a few times, the string's hit the bare skin inside of my arm just below the elbow, and it HURTS and leaves welts. I know I need to get better at like twisting my elbow so it isn't in the path of the string, but I'm still a beginner, so I've been concentrating on my form and anchor point more.

I'm considering getting an arm guard that comes up to my upper arm, something like: http://www.shopatron.com/products/productdetail/Ma...

I'm just wondering, would that having a full length one affect my form/shooting at all? I'm thinking that's probably a dumb question, but it seems like have an arm guard that covers your elbow might hinder the shot in some way.

So, is getting a longer arm guard worth it? Or should I just put up with the welts until I get the elbow twisting down?

And if it matters, I'm just shooting targets, not hunting at all.

*Thanks!*

Update:

@Harley Lewya: I actually AM taking a class. Other than my elbow, my form is near perfect.

Update 2:

@who is #1?: I don't use wooden arrows. I've been shooting with these ones: http://www.eders.com/products/easton-xx75-blues-ar... ....I'm pretty sure they're aluminum.

    Arm Guards For Archery

It's a matter of form. The more protective the wrap, the better. If an arrow ever shatters (because the bow is stronger than the wooden arrow) the arrow will go straight into your forearm.

Same problem here. Got protection for my forearm but now I keep popping the lower part of upper arm (bicep near the elbow). I use recurve mostly. Hopefully with more practice this will stop, but until then I'm gonna have to put something there.

I cut a piece of cardboard the length of my forearm and about 4-5 inches wide. I put the cardboard on my arm, then get a tall sock that I cut off at about the ankle, then slide the upper part over my arm. It is cheap and it doesn't hurt if and when the string slaps... It doesn't last forever, it is not traditional, and it isn't leather... But hey, it is the best I could do... Good luck.

The extra long one is great for shooting when you're wearing a thick jacket. The upper section will prevent the string hitting the bicep area. There are some ventilated (Hard plastic models)....those would be better in the summer.

As you get stronger the string should start leaving your arm alone but to get to that point you have to practice . Protect your elbow tell it learns to stay clear . Archery is suppose to be fun . I don't where a guard but I know some very good shots that do .
