should my newborn be around someone who has been around a person with viral pneumonia?

My 70 yr old aunt is in the hospital with viral pneumonia (she hasn't responded to bacterial pneumonia meds so they assume it is viral). She may die. My mother is her health care power of attorney and has been to visit her in the ICU. My mother lives an hour and a half away. It would be nice if my mother could stay with me since I live about a mile from the hospital. But I have a 10 week old child. Is my aunt contagious and would my mother possibly give something to my son by staying here with us?

Since your baby is so young and has not had any vaccinations, its best your mom doesn't visit. My 7 week old grandchild contacted a deadly form of strep from someone who had been in contact with a child with a strep infection and she nearly died. Better safe than sorry. Viruses can spread just from contact and some people can be 'carriers' and not actually sick

I wouldn't take the chance. Because your mom was around someone with it, what if she's a carrier? Some people can be a carrier of an illness, not get sick, but pass it on.
