Would it be cruel if I buy a mouse and place him in a hamster ball for my cat to play with?

My kitty has recently relocated and is having a difficulty coming out of hiding mode.

I was hoping this could entice her to come out...

Any comments? Opinions??

Update:

I'd give the mouse away afterwards.

My friend owns a snake.

No if it's going to help your cat and if it will feed your friends snake. I dont see a problem with it!

That's an extremely terrible and cruel idea. All animals(regardless of species)possess feelings and the poor little innocent mouse will surely suffer a stroke or a massive heart attack.NOT a good idea!!!

That is extremely cruel, I beg you not to do it. Mice are sweet, gentle pets and deserve a safe, comfortable home. Let someone buy the mouse from the petshop that will provide it with a cage, food and water and love.

as long as the cat doesn't get it and you give the hamster properly cared for then no. but if you buy it and don't get it the proper cage and feed, and clean it when needed then it turns out that you have it just so that your cat can use it as a toy then yes, it is a crule thing to do. because the hamster is still a living thing too and has feelings.....

Idk about a mouse but a hamster would do just as good for luring your cat out and hamsters love being in those balls. Maybe get one that's large enough where you're cat wouldn't eat it and put them together so that the hamster doesn't get stressed out. Idk just a suggestion. Or you could also try getting another cat as a playmate.

i bought a stick with a rope on it with a tiny squeaking mouse. my cat LOVES it. when shes hiding she will jump out of whatever hole shes hiding in to get to the toy.

  • Personally I think it's a cruel idea. Assuming the poor mouse didn't die from shock or a heart attack, what were you planning to do with it after your cat had finished toying with it?

A lot of cats get stressed by a house move because the new place smells unfamiliar. You just need to give your cat time to aclimatise to her new surroundings. You can always try to tempt her out with her favourite foods or a toy on a wandstick that she can chase after.

Edit: Poor mouse. Here in the UK it's not legal to feed live animals to snakes, they have to be brought frozen.
