Why is the word "people" capitalized in the Constitution, as in "We the People"?

There are rules of capitalization in english grammar. What do you think the significance of it is considering the founders were well educated business people who were educated in both law and english grammar?

    Because they were Communists obviously.

    Source(s): Con logic. The "people" - ooh scary! Let's make corporations people and then the regular people won't have any rights at all anymore! (Exactly what they did).

    All three words were capitalized to show were they were deriving the power to justify all law in this country.

    To emphasize that it's "WE THE PEOPLE" who are in charge, not the government..
