Very different type for me, but c/c please?

FAMILY LOST

It's been a long time

since anybody has wondered or

worried about this royal family.

Not exactly perfect...no.

But their ideas we must think

possibly, maybe they might be.

Unfortunately,

other things happened

that we couldn't expect or predict.

All the family were sent away

to glorious Siberia,

in there they'd stay.

A few months later,

they were moved to the infamous

House of Special Purpose.

Several months there they

lived against their will;

still striving to live any way.

One night, a guard came

to have them pose for a photo

for their family and friends.

Nicky, Alex, the Tsarevich

(and the girls I can't name)

sat down for photo...but not what they thought.

Their photographer and help

came back with many guns;

they shot them dead...one by one.

The Tsar and Empress were killed

immediately, as were the daughters

and tsarevich....but one.

We're told that Anastasia

survived this awful struggle.

To me; it seems just an odd buggle.

I wonder and I worry

about this royal family...

since some could be related to me.

Hard to write, because I have a grandparent who was from Russia.

I've always been fascinated about the end of the Romanovs in Russia.

Update:

The movie I saw originally was released before I was 11. It doesn't do justice to the book, but what movie ever does? It was Nicholas and Alexandra....released (I'm checking) 71 or 72. (Guess i was 11 or 12....)

Update 2:

Geez Bret, what's going on here. This must have been incredibly difficult for you to write, both emotionally, and not the patented S-I poem we have all (sorry, most) come to love.

This was not easy, but I liked it till the end. A 10 stanza 3 line with no rhyme scheme to boot, add to that condensed sentences. I think if you could have pulled off this one with rhymes it would have been outstanding. As it is, imo still very good. Looks like there were some rhymes unplanned >? but in S9 if you tried to rhyme struggle with buggle I would have abandoned it at that point.

My favorite line, and this not sure intentional is S6, L3:

"still striving to live any way"

    (by S-I)

The normal write I would think would be 'still striving to live anyway.' Making anyway two words totally changes the meaning of the sentence from "after all" to "I am trying to live any possible way I can to survive"

So, Bret, which is it? You don't have to say. This was a great line to me.

I am sorry for the pain this research caused you, and I hope in a small way the poem, and the answers provided give you an escape route.

    :"_+-*_)

Edit: Now I am going to have to watch this movie when it comes on TV. Don't think I have ever watched it all, but don't see how Anastasia could have survived. Like, what, she escape?

The myth of Anastasia was created to inspire hope. Showing fortitude and persistence through and by defying all odds. Your piece however, shows the stark reality of a situation, with the acceptance of the things you can not change, and a compassion for those hurt by this tragedy.

Well written, brief and to the heart of the matter.

    Thank you for sharing

It is a myth that Anastasia survived. I hate this part of history. I can identify why it affects you - I can't een watch shows about it anymore on TV.

    Couldn't exile have worked?
