Asus N61JQ Laptop Overheating?
Hello!
I have been the proud owner of my Asus N61JQ series laptop for almost 2 years now. Normally I run a lot of software on it at once and I've never had a problem with speed and heat.
This past semester, I studied abroad in Spain. I just got back this week. As of about a month and a half ago, my laptop started overheating, and often. If I Skyped for too long, if I rendered a video, if I was working with big programs like Photoshop, sometimes even if I was just browsing the internet, my computer would completely overheat and turn off without warning nor saving what I was working on.
I am back in America and this is still happening. My charger that I brought to Spain (I used a converter to plug it in) doesn't work properly unless it's held at a certain angle, I'm having to use my extra charger that I left at home. My computer still overheats, in the past day it has done it 3 times.
What can I do? Is this a battery problem? I know it can't be the charger because I've used the two different ones in the past day and it has turned off with both. What is happening?
Thank you so much!
I've always been able to have my laptop on my bed and on my lap without an issue. The only change is the temporary change in continents (hence voltage change). Now it overheats whether it's on my lap, my desk, on anything!
I don't have any pets, never have, so it wouldn't be a pet hair issue!

it didn't do it before, rigth? so something changed---the way u r using it -on soft material like ur lap and blocking vents
OR
it has accumulated cat hair and is blocking the vents and u need a good blow out.
it may require a partial disassm to do that, maybe not. but u need compressed air and usually from a can is not enough volume but u can try if nothing else.

There are some other things you might try in order to prevent laptop overheating, such as: a.) Clean up the air ventilation - Use compressed canned air on your ventilation at the back/side of your notebook or a laptop to blow out the dust generated over time on fans and heat sinks. This might highly improve the air flow and improve cooling of your laptop/notebook for sure. b.) Fan control software - Laptop manufacturers usually have their own fan control software which is created to automatically set the speed of the fans inside of your laptop when needed. Also, you can use a third-party software to control the fan speed with more efficiency. c.) Do not overcharge the battery - Battery also produces additional heat, especially when you charge it when it is already full. Even though the cooling impact is low, it is always recommended to take care about this simply because this way you might extend the battery life. A purchasable fan coolers are also a good solution these days. They are relatively cheap (usually below $30.00) and they can really regulate the heat of your laptop/notebook.

TRY A LAPTOP FAN! it just sits on it and keeps it from over heating...
a new battery helps too (did that with mine)
