What is the difference between...?
What's the difference between "awakened" and "awoke" used in the past tense? For example, in the sentence, "He awakened/awoke with a start." Are they both even real words? Can they be used interchangeably, or is there a specific usage for both? Am I using one incorrectly? Please explain!

I believe they have the same meaning. In which case, you can use them interchangeably.
