  • What exactly is the process of giving up a pet for adoption?

Can someone give me a brief step-by-step process for giving up a pet (say, a dog) for adoption at a shelter? What kinds of identification would you need, how long would it take, what forms do you need to fill out, what do you need to do beforehand, that kind of thing. I don't need anything too specific, just a general idea of the process. I've done a brief Google search but I've only found ways to adopt pets rather than giving one up.

(this is for writing reference, by the way, I'd rather the character go through the proper channels rather than just showing up at the kennel like hello here's a dog)

  • Problem with "Save As" menu?

I've been having trouble with my "save as" menu on my computer. It doesn't seem to be limited to one program or file type, since I can't save both Microsoft Word documents or images from Photoshop.

When the dialogue box comes up, everything inside of it is blank. There is just the "save as" bar at the top. Nothing inside, not even a file location or anything.

    Like this:

I have been having some trouble with viruses, but this is rather bizarre. I've tried running a virus/malware scanner and restarting my computer, but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what's going on or how to fix it?

  • The word for a leg/limb that bends in two places?

What is the word to describe a leg or a limb that bends in two places? Like a dog's hind leg, for example. It has two distinct joints in the leg that bend separately. Is there a word to describe this? How would you say it?

  • Xbox 360: Can I Transfer Information From My External Hard Drive to My Computer?

I've got a pretty old Xbox 360, the original version instead of the slim (it has an attached external hard drive instead of the internal). I've pretty much run out of room on my hard drive and I'm planning on upgrading to an Xbox 360 S that has more storage capacity.

However, I would rather NOT lose all of my information that's saved on my Xbox 360 external hard drive. I'm not all that tech-savvy, so I was wondering if there was any way to transfer the data from the hard drive onto my computer, or maybe directly onto my new Xbox internal hard drive. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but answers are appreciated!

  • Any metaphors/euphemisms for being gay?

Alright, I realize this is a pretty strange question, but I'm asking it anyways. Does anyone know a metaphor/euphemism/etc. to describe a gay person? I don't mean "gay" as in "lame" like people tend to use it, I mean it in the homosexual sense.

However, most importantly, I WANT NOTHING OFFENSIVE. Unless it can easily be said and taken as a joke, I don't need it. I'm writing something and I realized I know absolutely no ways to say that someone is gay without saying it straight up.

Please and thank you! Sorry if I or any answers I may receive offend anyone.

  • Anyone Know a Good Webcomic?

I'd like a new webcomic to read! Yes, webcomic. Not manga. Webcomic. Okay, here's what I'm looking for:

Most any length is fine, just nothing too ridiculously long. Like Questionable Content. I'd rather not have to go through much more than five hundred pages to catch up. It can also be a very new webcomic, that'd be fine.

I'd like it to have pretty regular updates, at least once a week. There doesn't have to be a specific day, but just having something to look forward to is nice. Which would rule out something like Lackadaisy, which is a great comic but updates infrequently.

It can be on a host site (like SmackJeeves) or have its own website, I don't care. The creator doesn't have to be anyone famous or anything. If any Yahoo Answerers out there have your own comics, too, send me the link and I'll check it out!

Basically any genre would do, really. I like comedy, but serious moments also are good. However, I'd like there to be some kind of story or plot, not just a blog or daily life comic. I'm already reading several of those.

I'm not looking for any particular art style. The art doesn't even have to be that good, as long as it looks like some effort's been put into it.

A quick list of stuff I've already read/am reading:

Questionable Content, Wasted Talent, Root Rot, A Softer World, Boumeries, Crazy Sunshine, Tamuran, Heart-Shaped Skull, Runewriters, Grrl Power, Twokinds, Paranatural, Autophobia, Sandra and Woo, Fajita, Unsounded, Endtown, Dumbing of Age, Lackadaisy Cats, Dresden Codak, Always Raining Here, Double K

  • Grooming a Horse Before and After Work?

Okay, I'm currently writing a fantasy story, and, like most fantasy stories, my characters use horses to get around a lot. UNlike most fantasy stories, I'd like to be as realistic and accurate about this topic as possible.

I've read a lot about how far a horse can go and how much they eat and when, but I've actually found little about grooming where I've looked. So...

What kind of grooming does a horse require before being saddled/hitched? (they're cart horses, if this makes a difference) What kind of grooming do they require after work? How soon is this handled after being unhitched? How long does grooming take? What tools are needed?

    Any help is appreciated!

  • Death Note Question: Writers and Lifespans?

I don't know how basic this question is, honestly, and I might look like an idiot for asking. It's been a long time since I've seen Death Note, and I tried reading the rules of the Death Note but I didn't see it addressed.

Anyways, when a human is in possession of a Death Note and they use it to kill a person, does the Shinigami recieve their remaining lifespan if it is a human that writes the name? I know that the human does not get it, but does the remaining time simply disappear, or does it belong to the Shinigami?

    Please and thank you!

  • Improper use of "cavalry"?

I've always used the euphemism "a few horses short of a cavalry" to imply that someone is... not very bright.

However, I was recently called out on the fact that this euphemism uses the word "cavalry" incorrectly. He said that "You can use the term cavalry generally - "the army's cavalry" - or use it to quantify the makeup of a unit - "a cavalry brigade; three cavalry squadrons" - but 'a cavalry' is an invalid construction making no grammatical sense. You may as well say he's a few parachutes short of an airborne, which makes the same amount of sense."

However, the word "airborne" refers to the state of being in the air. Comparing the two would mean that the word "cavalry" refers to the state of a soldier being on horseback. I looked up the definition of "cavalry" and found that it either refers to soldiers who fight on horseback or a branch of the army made up of soldiers who fight on horseback. A soldier who fights on horseback, not the state of the soldier being on horseback.

So... who's correct, me or him? I'd like to continue using my euphemism without guilt (grammar nazi here), but if I'm wrong I'd like to know. I need a third opinion!

  • What is the difference between...?

What's the difference between "awakened" and "awoke" used in the past tense? For example, in the sentence, "He awakened/awoke with a start." Are they both even real words? Can they be used interchangeably, or is there a specific usage for both? Am I using one incorrectly? Please explain!

  • Could this be my problem?

A few months ago, my computer began having some issues. I just recently found a rather mysterious (and suspicious) file on my computer's hard drive. It appears to be in either Chinese or Japanese (looks Chinese, and nonsense in both when translated in Google Translate) when I open it using Notepad, but it's simply gibberish and symbols when I open it in Microsoft Word and Wordpad. Those are the only programs that I can get it to open on. Suspicious, no?

Anyways, it was apparently created at about the same time I started having problems, and I definitely didn't make it.

I'm thinking it's some kind of virus, but I also don't want to delete an important file or code that would crash my computer. Should I go ahead and try to get rid of it, or leave it? Help me, please!

  • What does the acronym EMO mean?

I've seen the acronym EMO around sometimes, and I can't figure out what it means. It's usually used in similar context as IMO (in my opinion) or IMHO (in my honest opinion), but I don't know what the "e" would stand for. Does anyone know? Please and thank you!

  • If You're About to Get Punched...?

Okay, let's say you ticked off the wrong person, and now they're coming in for a swing. Are you supposed to clench your teeth, or is that the wrong thing to do? I remember someone telling me something about clenching your teeth if you're about to get punched in the face, but I don't remember if you ARE or AREN'T supposed to.

  • What anime should I watch next?

I just finished watching Hetalia: Axis Powers, and I need something to fill my time before Hetalia: World Series comes out. I like a lot of genres, and I've either seen or have absolutely no interest in most of the more famous stuff. So please don't give me things like Naruto or Code Geass or Elfen Lied. I've seen them already!

Okay, here's a quick list of some of the stuff I've seen and enjoyed:

    Hetalia: Axis Powers

    Clannad

    Toradora

    Ouran High School Host Club

    Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler)

    The Wallflower (Perfect Girl Evolution)

    Fullmetal Alchemist

Shugo Chara (I am not above watching an entire anime for one character... lol)

    D.N.Angel

    Fairy Tail

    Kodocha (Child's Toy)

    Fruits Basket

    Soul Eater

    Pani Poni Dash

    Rurouni Kenshin

    The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

I like animes that aren't the same thing over and over again. I don't like JUST fighting or JUST romance. I like a blend of funny and serious moments, something that's always changing at least a little bit.

If anyone can help me find something, that would be great! Oh, and it doesn't have to be an anime, I read manga just as much. And it also can be subbed or dubbed, makes no difference to me. Thank you!

  • Can You Create Multiple Profiles on Skyrim?

I bought Skyrim recently, and it's my first Morrowind series game. I didn't really create the character that I would like with the stats that I would like. I was just experimenting . That being said, I also am... well, I'm competing with my brother to see who can beat the game faster. So I don't want to DELETE my profile.

So, I was talking to a friend of mine, and he said that he has Skyrim for the PS3, while I have it for Xbox 360. He mentioned that he had several profiles of different characters, and I was wondering if I could also maintain more than one profile for my game. I'm worried that it's only a PS3 option, or that he's just messing with me. Is it possible to create multiple game profiles and saves on Skyrim for Xbox 360?

I'd try it out, but I'm nervous about deleting my old save. I'm a little fond of my character even if it's not what I would like best.

  • What Is This Symbol Used For?

I was just wondering, what's the ( ~ ) symbol on a keyboard used for? The only times I've seen it used is in texting to show that a sound is carried, like "kyaa~!" What's the symbol's original purpose? Is it some mathematical symbol, or what?

  • What's The Name of This One-Shot Manga?

I read a manga recently, and I thought that a character looked familiar. I had planned to go back and look at it one more time... but I forgot the name.

It's about this girl who totally failed at mathematics in school. For some reason, she had to get her math grades up, so she asked the smartest kid in class to tutor her. He was this creepy-looking guy with his hair all in his face and stuff who didn't talk much. Turns out he was a pretty nice guy, but she made a comment about his shaggy hair obscuring his vision, and the next day he cut it. Not only was he a nice guy, apparently, but pretty cute too. All the girls in the class totally started going after him, and the girl who he was tutoring felt left out and kinda sad. In the end, though, everything turns out happily because he asks her to hang out with him and stuff. Or something like that.

If you've read it, you should know what I'm talking about. It's a one-shot. I can't remember any of the characters' names or anything. Can someone help me? Thank you~!
