Death Note Question: Writers and Lifespans?

I don't know how basic this question is, honestly, and I might look like an idiot for asking. It's been a long time since I've seen Death Note, and I tried reading the rules of the Death Note but I didn't see it addressed.

Anyways, when a human is in possession of a Death Note and they use it to kill a person, does the Shinigami recieve their remaining lifespan if it is a human that writes the name? I know that the human does not get it, but does the remaining time simply disappear, or does it belong to the Shinigami?

Please and thank you!

No, the Shinigami does not receive the remaining lifespan. Only if the Shinigami actually wrote the person's name, then he would get it.
