This is a divisive issue that is in the hands of states and voters and I don't think Obama nor Romney would be advised to make an issue of it for fear of alienating people and just leave it to the states that want it and let those who don't want it keep the laws against it. Biden often puts his foot in his mouth and I think Obama cringes when he makes a statement like he did because there are those who are very passionate about this issue on both sides of the coin.

I asked a lady in the grocery store about this. She said that she had been married to the same man for nearly sixty years and that her husband and she have had a same sex marriage all of that time, and that should be the "same sex" that should guide us.

During election year, Obama is not going to say whether he is ok or not ok with gays so he does not alienate his voters who may not be okay with gays, though it is very clear that he is ok with gays.
