I had an accident in my mums car.. insurance?

I am insured on my mums car and i had an accident (i scratched the car on a pillar in a carpark) and i was wondering whether her insurance will go up or will my insurance go up? Surely mine would go up because i was the one driving the car?

I live in the UK

Her policy, her bill, plus a claim on your record as the driver who did the damage.

Personally, unless it's badly damaged and likely to cost £1000 or so to repair I wouldn't get the insurance involved for a scratch.

It'll probably cost more in increased premiums over the next few years because you've had a claim than it would to get the scratch fixed.

Take it to a local paint shop and get a quote to see how much it'll cost to fix without going through the insurance.

If there is a claim on the policy then hers will go up.

You are obliged by law to inform your insurer if you have one and also any insurer that you wish to take a policy with in the next 5 years. It is a material fact used to determine the premium

Although strictly not the 'correct' thing to do, most sensible people in this circumstance would pay for the repairs themselves without involving the insurance at all. I assume the pillar wasn't damaged.

It's the car which is insured, with you as a named river on the policy. If the accident is reported, then it will put the insurance cost up.

it will be whoever claims on the insurance, if they are separate policies then it will just be yours, but if you are just named on your mothers car then she will bear the brunt of the price rise
