What do you think is the most well caused mistake?

What do you guys think is one of the most well caused mistakes for people buying/selling horses quickly. Do you think it's cause people don't know what they're getting into when they buy a horse? Is it cause they bought a horse off of color instead of experience level? Or do you think it's when people buy horses and get a job to support a horse, but end up not having enough time for their horse because of their job?

Or others? What do you guys think?

I think the it would have to be people mistaking a drinking well for a wishing well and throwing money in and thereby contaminating the water.

Not understanding the commitment. Horses live 30 or more years. That is a long time to take care of them. It is a tremendous amount of work and expense.

That is why the average horse owner has a horse for only 2 years. They didn't really grasp the commitment. The whole thing gets boring or too expensive or they just lose interest and do other things.

So if you are a teen and buy a 10 year old horse, you will likely be a parent yourself during that horse's life.

People don't think that far ahead.

The number one buying mistake I see is buying without a vet check and no trial period. Good way to end up with a useless horse.

Number two would have to be beginners buying green or unbroken horses they can't handle, thinking it is better to "learn together".

  • Buying solely for color and not experience level and personality. I think very one has done this once, i sure did and i learned my lesson. While color is nice if you want a certain colored horse atleast find oen taht matches your experience level not just jump of the first pretty horse you find.

    You cant ride pretty!

I think perhaps, buying for color only, buying a horse that is to young and the owner is to inexperienced, buying quickly and then they or their children loose interest quickly.

i think its when people buy a horse right away before getting to know him or asking the owner about illnesses and other issues
