What keeps you watching anime?

The storyline, the characters and how they develop throughout the entire series. Personality, Romance(If any between character and how it develops between them), art style, awesome OST/Opening/Ending songs XD, Bad***/epic battles.

Just personally love anime! unlike english cartoons, they have more better art and a much better plot. (my opinion) English cartoons look no where near human like... and I think most of them aren't about everyday life either. But like random magical things. Anime has more of a variety and just love it. I especially love the comedy and romance. English cartoons don't have much. (sorry if i'm being biased. I don't really watch english cartoons - not that i hate them, just personally think Anime's better. And I don't mean to be offensive to anyone who likes English cartoons more) There are thousands of animes and it's different genre's. Anime's go for more than even six hundred episodes. I know some cartoons do too, but mostly children's shows, which children are more attached to, while anime's like Detective Conan or One Piece... (Bleach, Naruto etc) they don't get boring for some people. : ) I like Conan and One Piece better by the way. Again, I think I'm being biased... : ) Oh well. I speak my opinions and honor other people's opinions too. I'd say mostly because anime has better art than cartoons. : ) ALSO I GET TO LEARN JAPANESE LANGUAGE!! CAN'T FORGET THAT! Both enjoying and learning. Subarashi~!

anyway I keep watching anime because I love the original plot and the art that you just can't get in any normal book. The characters are much more "real" to me as you know everything about them and they always have awesome personalities.

Take Toriko for example- it is a manga on food but it is made into such an awesome manga!! I recommend it btw

Not much, these days. I used to tune in to see interesting scifi STORIES. I didn't tune in for fan-service and stupid gags.

Most shows are now otaku-centric and pander to otaku tastes... which means POINTLESS fan-service, forced drama and "misunderstandings", and "moe". In order to fit all these elements in, things like story, plot, characterization, and other traditional elements that make for a good story are sacrificed so producers can pander to the ~250,000 people in Japan that actively buy DVDs and figures (where the actual money in made... what you see on TV is really a 22min advert for the DVD).

I find that older anime, mostly pre 2004, is generally a lot less otaku-bate and is targeted at a wider audience. Generally, fan-service is kept to a minimum, stories are better crafted, and characters don't fall into tropes as readily ("_____dare" has killed character design).

The story lines. Now, not all the story lines are good, but some pull me in.

A polar bear who runs a cafe for humans and animals

A boy and girl who connect emotionally through her drool

Teens who live in an accelerated alternate world

A girl who learns she is really a space pirate

Well, I like watching anime because I know I'm making progress, and as for the anime itself I watch it because it teaches me a bit of Japanese, it makes me laugh, cry, and become a better person :)

The different genres of anime (fantasy, slice of life, violence/action etc.) are really interesting. Also, there are some good stories within most anime.

As long as I have eyes that can see and ears that can hear, I shall continue to watch anime. Yes, it is that good.

what keeps me interested is the plot,comedy and the characters personality's...... if you want a funny anime to watch with just what i mentioned watch Full Metal Panic! ^_^
