I admire your DIRECT defiance of Britain and the rules of the English language, as it is the American way. But the truth, my friend, is that you may not NEED an income but that it'd make you a better and more responsible man to have that job before going into a relationship with a real good person.

Remember that you're looking for a girlfriend, not a financial consultant... Meaning you don't need a girl constantly giving you advice on where to spend your money/finances, but again, going into a relationship with a good girl (while employed) is the responsible thing to do so you can (occasionaly) treat her to certain things and help her out if she needs it.

If you're a great guy then no.

If you're a jerk then yes.
