Why Yahoo team is not analysing the answer or question before deleting when reported.?

There are few quetions on Languages category and the question is on Tamil Literatue of more than 2000 years old scripts. When the answer is given by tracing the original script, and explaining the subtle meaning and direct meanings in same language and also the essence in English, the questions and answers are deleted on Voilation.

Is Yahoo just a machine which will only act on reporters, but not understand the treasure behind the millenniums old literature. Is yahoo do not want such treasures in their YA Arcieves?

Update:

.

Some people simply open an account and report.

I feel, at least Yahoo can consider a qualification for Reporting. Minimum qualification shall be by users above level 3,

To report a Level 4 user's Q/A, it shall be by level 5 persons and

for level 5, it shall be level 6, and

for level 6, it shall be by Level 7 persons.

For level 7, it shall be by at least three reporters from level 7.

Can Yahoo consider this ?

Yahoo! doesn't analyse answers unless the reported user sends in an appeal.

I've seen the occasional Tamil questions in Languages, and I think there's a misunderstanding going on.

There's nothing at all wrong with questions about Tamil language and literature. However, this is the English language Yahoo! Answers. Note the guidelines:

    =quote=

    Misusing Answers

    ...

Don't post things that are incomprehensible or in the wrong language

    =unquote=

Ths means that Q&As have to be in a form primarily intended to be comprehensible to readers of the language of the particular Y!A site (in this case, English).

So questions posted entirely in Tamil are in breach of the guidelines. So are answers entirely in Tamil, unless the question asked for a translation into Tamil. So are Q&As with lengthy explanations and analysis in Tamil.

It would help if you asked questions to which you genuinely wanted the answer. I'm sure to many readers these Q&As look like collusion in aid of language and cultural activism rather than genuine need-to-know. Y!A is not a soapbox. Readers also take a dim view of bogus translation questions used as a vehicle to post complaints, threats, or other inflammatory statements.

When a question or answer is reported by two or more reliable users, it is deleted. If the author of that question or answer thinks this was done unjustly, he must appeal the deletion. In the violation notice email you received, there is a link to customer service. You start the appeals process by clicking that and following the prompts.

Please read through the rules (a.k.a. the Community Guidelines) first. Losing an appeal cots you extra points.

Most questions are deleted because of form, not content. If you asked for others' opinions on the meanings of these writings, that could well be a violation because you are asking for opinions. This isn't meant to be a discussion forum or chat room, even about valuable topics. It's an information exchange site.

Questions should be seeking information or advice of general interest to the community. Instead of asking what others think of the writings, ask something factual about them. You can ask what they may mean, but not what others may think they mean. It really does come down to semantics sometimes.

The reporting system is automated, yes ... so essentially it IS a machine.

When enough users report something, it is automatically deleted. No one looks at deleted content UNLESS the deletion is appealed. If you feel that something you've posted has been deleted in error, by all means APPEAL the deletion.

Keep in mind, though, that postings must be in the language of the site (in this case, English). It's OK to give a TRANSLATION in another language if that is what the question seeks, but not OK to actually ANSWER IN another language.

If you are in fact translating, make it absolutely clear that what is posted in any language other than English is done so for the purpose of translation.

Yahoo should follow community guidelines framed for the members. Yahoo is thinking that community guidelines is only for the yahoo members. Language questions is allowed as per community guidelines and anyone can ask language questions in the language category, also anyone can answer in any language for the question.

Deleting question and answers is done by a machine. How can the machine know about members? or how can the machine know the value of question and answers? Yahoo should not encourage the jealous people who is against the tamil language is reporting tamil answers and questions frequently.one thing i don't understand. What profit they are going to earn by reporting a language question or its answers?

I will not give weight for the points. I also don't care on point loss. Yahoo's motivation is to spread knowledge. Now yahoo itself standing in the way of spreading knowledge. Will yahoo realize this?

Because that is how Community Moderation works. The system is automated because it is quick, saves Yahoo! lots of money they would have to spend to do it the way you suggest, and it's pretty accurate; when posts are deleted the odds are 94% or better that they are actual violations.

If posts are deleted that are not violations, then those reports should be appealed. If the appeals are won then those who reported will have much less reporting influence in the future.

Yahoo indeed works like a machine. That is because of lack of staff to handle all the reporting. The result is like a bad court judgement in which judgement is based on the number of witnesses without ascertaining that they were not bought witnesses.

Yahoo Answers is plagued by many problems and it is unfortunate that Yahoo Team is not active enough to improve the website periodically taking care to reduce such problems. One can always strive for perfection that is known to be not achievable.

Man believes Machine.. But Machine depends the Man...

Machine follows the Man's instruction.. But Man is not supposed to instruct the Machine Properly...

This is what happening in Yahoo! Answers..

Lack of staff members, Lack of time to check reports are the main factors behind the wrong Judgement.

I heard once yahoo flourished. The yahoo management took interest and saw the reports. The management simply ignored the false and jealous reports. The members came to float with more interest. Now Yahoo management depends on yahoo machines and members loss interest in floating good questions. It is very rare to see good questions. This is because of yahoo's inaction.

    What yahoo says?

It is like ''you report my question, i report your answer''. Yahoo says ''If a question or answer is reported by one or more reliable users, it will be removed.

Yahoo should think about it. A reliable member will never report. Then, which member is reliable?May be it is in Yahoo's dictionary the trolls, jealous, and anti-language people. They are reliable members to yahoo.

    Yahoo's inaction:

A member or a some one or two wantonly deleted philosophy questions by voting ''no best answer'' and one member floated a question clearly identifying a member. What yahoo did? Nothing. it did nothing. Yahoo shut its eyes. why I say this? I lost nearly 25 answers. I wrote yahoo but no response. May be Yahoo will respond anti-language, particularly anti-tamil questions and answers.

What lesson we learn from this?

Yahoo is helping the reporting members. Yahoo indirectly says not to float language questions, particularly tamil questions, significanly it will allow spanish, french and german languages.

    Will yahoo clarify?

What is language questions? What norms fixed on it? What community guidelines say in floating language questions.? If everything followed by every floating member, why yahoo deletes? Will yahoo answer this?

    Is yahoo against Hinduism?

I am told that yahoo always against Hinduism. I don't know how far it is true. One thing is clear.Yahoo clearly thinks that Tamils are Hindus. I make it clear. Tamils alone Hindus.May be yahoo think that Tamil language questions are Hinduism questions.

I feel sorry for the fellow tamils and tamil language questions.

Very good question , already many good answers were given , but i like to tell somethings . i hope its helps you .

First of all this site runs purely on community guidelines and terms of service . no matter who you are and how long are you participating , once you violated both CG& TOS , they will never give second chance . many member unknowingly violating and getting suspension . and after they accusing YAT . what is the use , you should be careful in the beginning itself .

Though their q/a deleting is automated process , but i can surely say that they take appeal action on every reported one without fail . they are reviewing each and every appeal with care . i too have won many appeals also i even got response for violation case without fail , so what im telling is that don't worry for reported question or answer , just make sure that you haven't violated guidelines in any case , if you are strong in your side then what trolls can do . " madiyil ganam irundhal than vazhil bhayam irukkum " so make your strong with guidelines and i say even its reported you surely win ..

Regarding language , as they clearly said in CG that you can ask questions in other languages like ' how to say some particular word in other language , but in the any place they havent said that you can give answers in your native language . if you do so it falls under violation . if you are participating yahoo answers india then you must ask and answer only in english this where members like you and me are getting struck , we due to over joy and curiosity giving answers other than english and that automatically leads to violation . i too got many violations for giving answers in tamil , but what to do , sometimes it happens .....
