Use barley bales to rid your pond of string algae. Get as much algae as you can out first. Replace the barley when it decomposes. Microbe LIft PL works well too. Follow the directions on the bottle. It's an enzyme/bacteria and is the best stuff I have seen for controlling blanketweed.

The best, not fastest, way to get rid of string algae is to 'fish' manually as much as possible out the pond. Dead algae will only build the base for new algae growth and turn in an endless cycle. Put a few barley balls in the pond to help beneficial bacteria to grow.

Chemicals that kill string algae will leaf the dead string algae as unsightly grayish 'water-spagetty' you will have to fish out later anyway.
