I recently went vegan and my period is late?

I went vegan around a month ago. Prior to that I was vegetarian. Do you think this change in diet has caused my period to be late? Is it something the diet lacks or perhaps just the body adjusting to the change in diet? Any info would be appreciated, thankyou x

    You are 18.

Two weeks ago you posted on here that you had sex with some guy that you are NOT in a relationship with. You are also a binge drinker who seems to get in trouble while drunk and you are very immature, yet you are having sex and trying to date 15 year olds. The chances are stronger that at 18, your menstrual cycle is still working itself out, that you got pregnant, or that you have other issues in your life contributing to this.

You need to get in and see a doctor for a pregnancy test, an HPV vaccine (if you haven't already had it), and for birth control (if you aren't pregnant).

It's SERIOUSLY unliikely that in one month you've developed any sort of deficiency that would cause a major body shift like this.

Don't worry about Daisy's soy scare tactics. No one here takes her seriously, so you may wish to follow that same path.

Are you eating enough quantities of food? Do you feel hungry? Have you lost a lot of weight since you went vegan? If the answer is YES, then that's the reason. If not, don't worry, you might be cleaning your body, and adjusting to the change. Sometimes it happens...

I would say that if your diet changed drastically, then yes.

If you ate lots of eggs and dairy, etc. before, and then suddenly cut it out, I would say it could have an effect.

I cut out eggs and dairy very slowly, so didn't notice any effect. However, I have never had a clockwork menstrual cycle. Almost everything throws me off! I get sick, I'm late. I start a workout regime, I'm late. I party too hard around ovulation, I'm late. I pull all nighters studying, I'm late. You get the idea...

I would say that if your cycle is sensitive like mine, then it's entirely possibly that a diet change would throw it off. If you were more like clockwork, then I would start looking for other causes.

If you have lost weight it could be causing your period to be late. I was on a sports team with a girl in high school with very little body fat and during the season her period stopped because she did not weigh enough to menstruate.

It means the vegan messiah is coming! Praise and blessings unto you. :-)

J/k. No, I don't know anyone whose period was delayed because they stopped consuming dairy; dairy is notoriously full of added hormones these days, but I still don't know anyone whose period was affected by quitting it. Same with eggs. I would be concentrating on possible non-diet reasons if I were you.

If you eat far less fat, your body needs to keep fat for itself and not waste it on periods. Diet change can do this.

Eat more fat- avocado, coconut, walnuts, soycheese. Anything in fact, it doesn't have to be fat, it's just that fat is what the body turns un-needed food into, to store and use for things like, well, periods.

Just how late is late? Your period can be late for all manner of trivial reasons and it's extremely unlikely that your being vegan for a few weeks is the cause.

Are you eating a lot of soy? Soy burgers, soy hot dogs, soy protein bars, tofu, soy milk, etc, etc?

Soy contains estrogen like chemicals that have been shown to affect women's menstrual cycles.....along with lowering men's sperm count and damaging the thyroid gland.

Otherwise it might just be that you're not eating enough calories. If that's the case, your body is not going to put itself in more stress by going through a reproductive cycle.

If you are having unprotected sex you may be pregnant.

first of all, why would you even think of becoming a vegan. you're basically ruining your health by losing out on nearly every nutrient and vitamin that your body needs to survive. its deffinately the reason why you're late on ur period. you're lacking alot of foods. even a vegetarian is a better choice of lifestyle. though i think thats mental too.
