Christians: let me get this straight?
Christians claim old testament promises but not the rules in the Old Testament? So the rules were given to the Jews only, but the promises by God were to the whole world? Am I confused?
I am Christian if you want to know, and I was thinking about this today. IF you are a hater, or not a Christian, don't bother answering this. If you don't know your Bible, don't bother answering this.

Thank you, Christine, for referencing Jeremiah 31:31-34. That indeed highlights the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, and it was NOT that God had put an end to his LAW! Read verse 33 again.
" ... I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts ... "
He will put WHAT in the minds and hearts of people? His LAW!!!
This also highlights where the confusion is, and it is NOT with you, Daughter; it is clearly with those who mistakenly try to support their lawless position with clever (but faulty) arguments. They want the reward without the works. The promises of God are to the righteous (those who obey God's Laws), not to the wicked (those who ridicule God's Laws) (Proverbs 11:18, Matthew 10:41).
From Genesis to Revelation, one thing is clear -- God's people obey his laws!
Genesis 26:5 NKJV
"because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws."
Joshua 22:5, 1 Kings 2:3, 2 Chronicles 31:21, Proverbs 6:23, 7:2,
Malachi 4:4 NKJV
"Remember the Law of Moses, My servant, Which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, With the statutes and judgments.
Romans 7:12, 1 John 3:4,
Matthew 19:17 NKJV
" ... if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
1 John 2:4 NKJV
He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 John 5:2 NKJV
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.
1 John 5:3 NKJV
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
Revelation 3:10 NKJV
Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Revelation 12:17 NKJV
And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14:12 NKJV
Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 22:14 NKJV
Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
No, Daughter, it is not you who is confused, but those who think they can obtain righteousness (and the reward of righteousness) without doing righteousness.

God's word is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path. do a study and ask God for the answer and for wisdom.
Most, so called, Christians today are doing neither. I don't hear many people quoting scripture. There's quite a few promises in the new testament which are even more amazing then what's in the old testament.
The few that do quote scripture, yes, could do what you are saying and perhaps not pay attention to the context of the passage. TTB:org and LWF:org are good places to listen to podcasts concerning your question. Plus there's huge amounts of study material free on the internet (for now) download while you can. biblos:com is another good link.

Oh please....Fellow Christians, get your act together! Jesus even had a specific chapter written in the Gospels saying how he came on earth to fulfill the law, not abolish nor nullify it! We are still obliged to the commandments, but we are not bound. I'll say that again. We refer to the Old Testament as a moral standard of life, but we are free from sacrifices. If you all read your Bible, it clearly states that you either die or present a sacrifice to atone for your sins if you commit sin. Well, Jesus paid it all on the Cross, while the Leviticus law says whoever hangs upon a tree is cursed by God. Jesus took all the curses and punishments we did and ever will do, being the greatest sacrifice. He fulfilled our atonement forevermore. This means, as we follow up the Old Testament, every time we sin, we always will remember that Jesus took all our punishment we should be suffering right now.
Honestly, now! That's the main point of Christianity! Please Brothers and Sisters! Why did we believe?

What do you not understand about this being an open forum?!
Surely you lack the tolerance and intellect to discuss and debate on a public forum - so feel free to leave!
But why not stay, learn some tolerance, grow your intellect and in the process become a much better person!
Or are you simply out to prove non Christians right when they accuse Christians as being intolerant and closed minded?

The Mosaic Law, not the entire Old Testament, made of commandments, was limited to natural and converting Jews prior to Jesus but the promises God made to his faithful followers were not necessarily directly connected to the Mosaic Law but to gis followers in general.
The reason why the new testament is the new covenant for Christians today is because on the night before Jesus' death, Nisan 14, 33 C.E., he established the celebration of the Lord's Evening Meal announcing the new covenant, which was to be validated by Jesus' sacrifice. (Luke 22:20) In addition, God foretold the new covenant by the prophet Jeremiah in the seventh century B.C.E., stating that it would not be like the Law covenant, which Israel broke. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

Jesus was sent to give us a second chance...to make up for the mistake Adam made.....the old testament teaches us what not to do to make God angry....the new testament Jesus God Son died for our sins...and left the holy spirit to live in us and help keep us.....( in the old testament the spirit was with us)....so Jesus dying for us wiped out a lot of the old testament rules....this is a short version of the story i hope it helps...it would take too many words to explain it all...God bless you

The same issue came up in the first century. Some Christians who were Jews believed that they still had to observe the features of the Law covenant which they always had before, When Gentiles from the nations, who were not Jewish proselytes became Christians these Jews told them that that had to get circumcised and observe the Law of Moses. So a meeting of the governing body was called in Jerusalem to resolve this dispute.
(Acts 15:12-21) 12 At that the entire multitude became silent, and they began to listen to Bar′na·bas and Paul relate the many signs and portents that God did through them among the nations. 13 After they quit speaking, James answered, saying: “Men, brothers, hear me. 14 Sym′e·on has related thoroughly how God for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name. 15 And with this the words of the Prophets agree, just as it is written, 16 ‘After these things I shall return and rebuild the booth of David that is fallen down; and I shall rebuild its ruins and erect it again, 17 in order that those who remain of the men may earnestly seek Jehovah, together with people of all the nations, people who are called by my name, says Jehovah, who is doing these things, 18 known from of old.’ 19 Hence my decision is not to trouble those from the nations who are turning to God, 20 but to write them to abstain from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. 21 For from ancient times Moses has had in city after city those who preach him, because he is read aloud in the synagogues on every sabbath.”
He was quoting from Amos:
(Amos 9:11, 12) 11Â “‘In that day I shall raise up the booth of David that is fallen, and I shall certainly repair their breaches. And its ruins I shall raise up, and I shall certainly build it up as in the days of long ago, 12Â to the end that they may take possession of what is left remaining of E′dom, and all the nations upon whom my name has been called,’ is the utterance of Jehovah, who is doing this.
Those recognized that the phrase " all the nations upon whom my name has been called," was not referring to proselytes to Judaism, since these were considered Jews also, but to those who were uncircumcised. Fornication is the general term for all unlawful sexual intercourse, The law on abstaining from blood was first given to Noah and applied to all his offspring. The prohibition against idolatry also predated the Law covenant. So Christians were to observe these three things, from their scriptures, as well as all the commands of Christ and teachings of his Apostles. Do you abstain from blood?

it's another excuse for someone to believe their own version of a religion. If you believe the bible is true, then you should follow the whole thing or not at all.
