Could somebody please explain clearly: What is meant by EGO? - and - Why is it an asset - or - a liability?

You are free to contradict me, I welcome it. I hope your position is well thought out.

=============

My Request if you would:

Required stuff:

• Explain your statements intelligibly.

• Make solid arguments for a position on the matter.

Extra stuff:

• Referenced material

• Original thought

Forbidden stuff:

• Ad-hominem, name-calling, insults

• unexplained statements or un-argued positions, inexplicitness, ambiguity

Update:

Pardon me if the above is too demanding. I would to get this straight as there are those with differing views on the matter. I would like to bring them to accord where I can effectively criticise.

I'm gonna guess and waffle. Pardon in advance.

So the ego is the constructed sub-"system", a system in that it has relatively systemic discretion, and has explanatory potential for some psycho-analysts in describing selfishness (i.e. the part of the individual consciousness within its wider societal context which acts for itself, and is highly linked with how one perceives oneself and hence self-esteem, which then obviously affects how we relate to the wider society, as well as how the wider society relates to us. In short, and in my opinion, (I only took one module in social psychology a few years back, all consciously forgotten) (EGO in practice?), the ego is the relation of the self to the same self. Where the ego is strong the individual will have a strong sense of themselves, and this is sometimes presumed to conversely affect how the self relates less strongly to the group. everybody has an ego, to a greater or lesser degree, it is implicit in the individual.

As I said, I'm just waffling giving common sense interpretation of the ego in a limited form of understanding and detail.

I will say this however. it is all theoretical, and nothing is proven. they are only theoretical consteucts with which to understand the highly complex and interdependent naturee of the mind and body and the relations between the group and the individual. Theorizing about the most complex piece of biological equipment ever created is inherently prone to failure, even with the most complex piece of biological equipment ever created.

Occam's razor is a logic gadget used to % a reason for some noted phenomenon while extra advantageous than a unmarried reason is attainable, with the simplest selection being seen to be best. An occasion: a individual sees a white gentle shifting around the sky. possible reasons: a million. An plane arriving at or departing from a close-by airport. 2. area extraterrestrial beings of their interstellar craft. Occam's Razor could dictate that selection a million is authentic. even with the undeniable fact that, could the noted white gentle be area extraterrestrial beings, then ... As you will discover, like maximum 'logical' arguments, data often times can get interior the way of puppy agendas. save an open suggestions while using this gadget (the two one, your suggestions or Occam's Razor) and it will serve you nicely.

    Simply put:

Ego: Your sense of self worth and entitlement.

Asset: Motivation to serve your own interests when applied in moderation.

Liability: Generates hostility in others when applied in excess.

As the Greeks said: "Nothing in excess".
