Old Dexter lock with no key - need to replace cylinder?
I have an old dexter lock with no key. Its to an older style deadbolt. I'm trying to either re-key it, or replace the inside cylinder. I already tried the hardware stores to find a cylinder with no luck. I'd rather avoid paying a lot with a locksmith, so any advice out there? Anyone know where to buy a re-keying kit maybe online or in stores? Anyone know of a website where I can buy a new key cylinder for an old dexter lock? Again, I'd rather avoid a locksmith shop if I can.
By the way, this is an older, odd-shaped deadbolt. It's not a standard hole, its smaller. I do not want to just put in a new deadbolt, and I don't see this size anymore in the stores, thats why I want to keep this deadbolt hardware, but just re-key it or replace the inner key part.
Thanks!

Just take it to a locksmith and have it re-keyed. That is not replacing any parts, just the pins inside and your lock fits right back on your door. Call and ask, tell them you have no keys. I would charge probably about $17 to re-key with 2 new keys and you would be finished in about 15 minutes.
You are not going to find any parts, or a re-keying kit for an old Dexter lock. Schlage won't have parts either, they haven't owned Dexter that long.

I found out that Dexter is a part of Schlage Company that makes door hardware and locks.
Try using "Dexter" + deadbolts to search for websites. Then spend a bit of time looking at ones of interest. If no luck, simply send an email to Schlage directly and see what they can tell you.
