I have owned and driven John Deere tractors. Most of them have BETTER throttle response than your average Harley. Plus I like the exhaust sound better.

Because Harley riders are more interested in looking like a bad @ss than anything else. They put obnoxiously loud exhaust on their bikes so people will be sure to see them as they search for the hideous origin of the racket being produced. They think of themselves as being hyper-patriotic because Harleys are made in the USA. Believe me if a Honda motorcycle was a product of USA origin everone that rides a Harley would be riding a Honda instead. Harley's are a hey look at me motorcycle and that is the whole purpose of owning one otherwise they would spend half the price for twice the performance and by a "rice burner" as they so derogatorily call Japanese motorcycles. How do you explain the popularity of Harleys in other parts of the world then? My guess is those people secretly wish they were Americans too or they just want the "hey look at me" syndrome that American Harley riders crave.

There are different kinds of motorcycles for different purposes. Not everyone wants to go fast! Harleys were invented back at the start of the previous century, where they were used for pulling tree stumps!
Plus a lot of Harleys are ridden in parades where they have to ride all day at 2 mph. Harleys can do this in THIRD GEAR!

We need the tractors to roll over trolls.
BTW, if you'd ever ridden a stroked Ironhead you wouldn't be asking this question. Many of them have won land speed records at Bonneville, and with the right sprockets they can be very quick off the line. The Biggest problem I have with mine is keeping the front wheel on the ground.
If you don't like 'em, don't ride 'em.
Edit: It's him.. The ones who haven't grown up are the ones who disrespect other riders and their bikes ;)

Harley's are bikes for boys that never seem to grow up and want everyone to know that they have a big bike, lots of noise with little performance ability. I agree, Harley's should be used for plowing wheat fields.
