How is the Disney Keys to the Kingdom tour?

I have family coming down to visit me in July. They have both been to the Magic Kingdom multiple times. Since I work at the Magic Kingdom I thought it might be cool to put them on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. I am pretty sure this is the same tour that I see down in the Utilidors every day. I am wondering if people think the tour is worth the money. I get a discount but even with the discount its a lot of money to spend on an area that I consider mundane and boring since all the cool stuff is onstage. My mother has trouble walking and I can't imagine her riding the elevators that I don't even ride because I swear they have not been updated since 1971. She has fake knees and sometime has trouble walking. So has anyone on her taken it and did they think it was worth the money and time? Did you do it in the summer time?

I have not taken the Keys to the Kingdom tour, although it is something I am interested in.

Obviously, I love what's on stage as that is the whole point, but I also like to know the "behind the scenes" stuff. I like to know how it works, what makes it happen. It doesn't destroy the magic for me... I think it enhances it to know what goes into the magic on stage.

That being said, yes, I can see how it would be mundane and boring. Work usually is-- especially the things you see day in, day out, 8 hours a day, 6 days a week (hours may vary.)

I think that your Mom might enjoy it at least once. I know that my Mom would be interested in where I work and what I do, so yours likely would as well. She'd get to see what her son does. Most Moms like to know what their kids do day in, day out.

I had to chuckle at the old elevators thing. The schools I work at are the same way. I've worked at some schools that literally have caged freight elevators for disabled students that have to be from the 40s... Gotta love that old school urban utilitarian architecture. (I took the stairs after that. Safer.)

Can she get a mobility aid of some kind? It might not hurt, at least for a short while, to get an ECV or a wheelchair of some kind if the walking bothers her too much.

I think you should send your family on the tour. It seems like a neat thing to do, and they'll probably enjoy it.

My family & I have taken the Keys to the Kingdom Tour & loved it. It was very interesting for us to see the Utilidors. That's only a small part of the tour though. We got to see where the parade floats are kept & learn interesting facts, go on rides & had a great lunch at Columbia Harbour House. We did take this tour in summer. There is a lot of walking, so it may be better for your mom to use a wheelchair. I'm sure she'd love to see where her son works.
