To the Christian Community: If I prayed tonight for God to reveal himself to me in my dreams...?

What do you think would happen?

I see so many Christians claiming that God can't be shown to people, while at the same time praising all of the books which make claims that God was found in dreams, or in Near Death Experiences.

So, while people say he can't show himself, others praise how he supposedly has...

So, if one were to pray that this supposed God would reveal themselves in a dream, what would happen?

Would their experience prove that God existed? If they didn't have an experience, would it prove that God doesn't exist?

Sorry to load you up with so much, but just thought I'd ask.

(P.S. I'm an atheist)

Thanks!

Be prepared for cop-out answers by Christians such as god cannot be tested, god works in mysterious ways, it is not for us to question gods actions.

I think you should conduct a study. Draw a picture of what you think a god could look like. Get devout people of a bunch of different faiths to pray for an appearance in a remembered dream of the god image you have drawn. If someone gets it right, they win. If no one gets it, then you win.

Of course, the theists will all say that God doesn't appear just because you ask or that you were "tempting God" (which I have heard in response to the recovery prayer studies) or that it wouldn't look the way you drew it.

But, I maintain if you wanted to prove to someone that they were on the right path, in the right religion, then why wouldn't you appear in whatever form they ask. It would be a big coup for a god if it popped up in the right form.

Ultimately, people will believe what they believe. Just like you and I disbelieve, others will believe. No matter what we say. They say we can't be convinced either, but I really think if God showed up and told me I was being an idiot and he was real, I would convert.

We can never prove there is no god and they maintain god will prove himself when he chooses to. I think if you make claims of proof it is your burden to show it. So, until that happens, we are at a standstill.

    Nothing out of the ordinary.

First: Answers to prayers are contingent on faith, as an atheist you do not believe it God and God has no reason to respond to faithless insincere prayers.

Secondly: Since you have by our own declaration indicated you have made a decision on the point, even if God were to appear you would not believe it was God, you would likely chalk it up to the pepperoni on your pizza at dinner or something like that. God knows this as well so why would he waste his time?

Finally: God has put evidences of himself throughout creation. Those who are honestly seeking him will find him. If you have not found him or have denied the evidence that not Gods problem, that is yours.

You have every right to believe or disbelieve whatever you want I begrudge you nothing for you non-believe. If you are honestly seeking the truth can be found, if you are not then that is not my problem.

    how would you check that?

    1) what does God look like

    2) how would God appear in your dreams?

    3) would you know it was God?

    4) would it be a dream you remembered? (People dream about 3-4 times a night, but we usually just remember the one before we wake up)

I'm sure there are more reasons you could think of to get out of this one even if God did answer your prayer.

He could reveal Himself in a dream, or in real life. The thing is, the "proof" would only be for you as an individual, not on a mass scale. Why doesn't He perform miracles/signs for everyone to see? Because He did it in the ancient times, yet people still eventually turned from him, and there were still non-believers, so it didn't matter.

Rather than limiting God to revealing Himself during a dream episode, simply petition God to make Himself known to you on a personal level, using whatever sovereign measure of grace, that He deems appropriate...He's not far away and absolutely Will respond to genuine attempts to communicate, especially when submitted in humility...

I've been doing this a long while...It's real..

A very nicely stated and sincere question...cool

To open your mind to anything "Out There" is not a good thing. It is best to study the bible and get out of it whatever you can. God has revealed what he wants you to know in the King James Bible. Praying for special revelation outside of God's word is a risky endevore.

It all comes down to your own motive, and your attitude towards God.

He sees straight through any self-centered pride or trickery.

Nothing will happen before you genuinely acknowledge His sovereignty

and holiness. That's what made the difference for me. I was out looking

at the stars one night, appreciating the immense expanse out there,

and our place here - in the right place, with all the right conditions for

our existence and survival. I asked Him in sincerity if He was there, and

to help me know what He wanted me to know. I was amazed ... He did.

What would be the point of that? You would be asleep.

You need to have God reveal Himself whilst you are awake.

God does not appear on command, so if you prayed and asked him to appear he probably wouldn't, or maybe he would. That all depends on your level of faith. If you are being purely clinical about it saying show me the proof then probably not. What i think you don't realize is that God reveals himself in a number of mysterious ways, all of life's little miracles reveal God's presence and love for us on this earth.

Why is God hiding in the first place?
