My Cat Marmite will bring me dead animals as gifts but is still scared when I go to stoke her, what gives?

I took on Marmite in February as her owner was moving away, she was about 9 months old when I got her and very nervous to be in a new place as she had come from a home with lots of other cats including her mum.

Since she has been living with me she has been very skittish and spent a lot of time hiding from me, over the past few months she has gotten more confident but still won't let me fuss her.

She is happy enough to play in the flat, mostly when I am out although she will play in the living room now when I am home, and she sleeps on my bed. She will take cat treats out of my hand occasionally and will sit on my leg as long as I dont move and give her treats.

I recently went on holiday for a week and my mate looked in on her and fed her, which she has done before. However when I got back last night Marmite had left a dead mouse on the floor in front of where I sit on the sofa, there was also evidence that she had brought a bird in, but she has either eaten that or it got away.

I thanked Marmite for the mouse as she was watching me through the window when I found it, and she spent a lot of last night in the living room, but she still wont let me stroke her and runs away if I move.

Is she making progress?

My dog is the same way. He will bring my toys & such, but doesn't like me to hold him or pet him. She might just be like my dog, who gets annoyed with being messed with, even if it's good for him. She may want you to like her without you getting so touchy with her. Don't take it personally! Some pets just aren't as playful as others,

Wow, your lucky you could have youngster opossums around! I wish i did, anyway in regards to the "items" i know of cats bringing items however i do not believe i have ever heard of puppies doing it. The cat bringing the live chicken is style of bizarre but my wager is that it wanted to play with the chicken before it killed and/or ate it. The puppies alternatively, might have killed the opossum or discovered it, however i believe they had been simply taking it with them as a toy or bite, you understand? Dog prefer to go away there toys and chews around and simply walk away. I probably fallacious however those are my fine guesses. I hope i helped a bit of!
