Coming from someone who actually LIVES in NY....

a pre-ban LOWER is all you need, and it will allow you to have all the 'evil features' on your rifle. The only thing you absolutely can not have with your rifle is post-ban high cap (over 10 round) magazines.

It doesn't matter that you're in New York, if you get a pre-ban lower receiver, you can have a flash suppressor, collapsible stock, bayonet lug, pistol grip, etc. The only thing I'm not sure about is full auto. I don't THINK NY allows NFA weapons, though I could be wrong.

So, pre-ban rifle (or more specifically a pre-ban lower receiver) will let you have all the goodies EXCEPT for > 10 rd magazines, those are a seperate entity and must be made before 95 to be legal.

Pre Ban Ar 15 Lower Receiver

    Yes.

I build match and tactical AR's.

Simply put - buying a New York Pre-Ban rifle will let you put what ever you want on the rifle. Although you might pay several hundred dollars extra for this 'privilege'. Depending on why you are buying it - it may, or may not - be a good investment. For a rifle that is gonna just sit in a gun safe and only come out once or twice a year - probably not a good investment. However, if you are gonna make this rifle a new hobby and buy every accessory under the sun (they dont call it 'Barbie for Men' for no reason) then it would be money well spent and you will have a ton of fun with it.

Be sure to log into www.ar15.com and check out the Equipment Exchange for cheap cool used + new parts and accessories. Another favorite www.midwayusa.com has over 2,245+ different parts for the AR rifle series and www.brownels.com has every tool under the sun for that rifle too.

All pre-ban means is that it was made before the 1994 ban. The 1994 ban is no longer in effect. Their is no longer any difference in the eye of the law between the two and they still uses the same parts.

BUT you live in new york state which does have a permanent AWB. You do not HAVE to use pre-ban parts but what you can do with the gun is limited. For example with post ban you must have a fixed stock instead of a collapseable one and there can be no muzzle device nor threads to put on one, bayonet lug or pistol grip. Only pre-ban rifles can be configured to have those features. So to answer your question, yes.

It's as if the law never happened ... all parts are interchangeable (obviously depending on the gun itself)

You do have to ask yourself why get a pre-ban when the ban is no longer in effect and you could simply buy a new one with all the same features...

definitely, act as if the law never existed because it doesn't exist anymore! either ways, there's no restrictions on putting accessories on rifles in your state anyways, only california has anything that would cause problems with things like flash hiders, muzzle breaks, ect.

NO.....since your state NY did NOT allow the ban to expire ( they kept the state lvl) the fed one expired......

u can use the "approved" accessories.....but CANNOT buy normal accessories from free states and use them........
