Are there some songs that help you to process emotion that is difficult for you?

For me, there certainly are such songs. You know, it is amazing how we sometimes take for granted the love that a person gives us. More than love, actually...devotion. It is too easy to assume that such intense devotion will always be there, will remain unchanged, because you allow yourself to be convinced that when a person says they can never stop loving you, that it is true.

And of course, when this person says it, it IS true. They mean it with all of their heart. And you accept that it will always be so. Except that...it isn't. People slowly lose a little of the love they have for you, and you do not realize it until it is gone.

You know, the song whose link I have included contains the lyrics, "...but in a day and a night, I could write you a symphony..." I certainly am capable of such things, of writing with such emotion that a heart of stone cannot be unmoved by it. I can weave feeling into cascading poetry that speaks out: "Please forgive me, I am a weak person who needs your understanding."

Of course, a symphony that plays to an empty house moves no one.

And so, the performance has closed, the run has ended, the audience has departed, and in the empty theatre, there is only the largeness of the echo and the stillness of the props. No playwright, no poet, can survive in their art alone. We need that audience. We need, ultimately, someone to love us for all of our faults, forgive all of our weaknesses. It just is that sometimes the person we need love from has relinquished the role. It is hard to accept, but sometimes love isn't forever.

We realize it is too late when we see nothing reflected back in their eyes. Where before we saw ourselves as they saw us, through the gossamer filter of love, we now only too plainly see that we are, at last, inconsequential. Sometimes, we know that love is truly dead when we no longer have the power to hurt the one we took for granted. Instead, we hurt.

Ah, this leaves me tired. Well, it must be so. At any rate, this song expresses powerfully what I would not express when I could. When it mattered. Perhaps few remember me writing of this person, whose name sounds the same as this song's title. They do not love me any more. Ah, Kerroline, this is for you:

I went to Hawaii to be with someone I thought I might stay with. Instead I came back shattered. It was a nightmare. On the way to the plane to come home, he played the song Angie for me. I blocked it out and didn't consciously realize what he was doing.

A long time later, maybe weeks, maybe months, I was driving for my job and the song came on and it hit me like a brick wall- I suddenly realized he had played that song on the way to the airport, and it all came in on me, and the pain was tremendous. I couldn't listen to that song for years.

I guess in a way this is an example and anti-example at the same time of what you are asking.

Also, another song hit me strangely about that situation. The Year of the Cat came on the radio and I broke down. It was very disturbing to me. Those are the two songs that stick in my mind as causing great pain.

I like to call it a come coma.

That delightful few moments of anaesthetised euphoria where nothing matters but the moment. Then of course, people get distracted... that sweaty sticky gel that holds two lovers together starts to feel a little uncomfortable and other matters capture the imagination.

I'm all for celebrating the opportunity.

Grand Theft Auto games are a release for me.

They have the best sound tracks.

Grand Theft Auto: The really cool track on FunkFM (don't know the name)

    GTA2: Taxi Drivers Must Die.

Nothing helps me sort out my personal issues like a session mowing down pedestrians and capping pigs.

    You're right.

    Love is not forever.

    It's neither strong nor enduring.

    It's frail and fleeting,

    and it doesn't conquer all.

That's what makes it so special.

That's why we have to care for it and cultivate it

and put some actual work into it

if we want it to last.

And that's not always easy (((Jack)))..

Yes, but mostly instrumentals and songs done in different languages do it for me..

So, it's not really about lyrics. That's one of the last things I look for in music.

Baroque music from the composers of those times are very helpful and soothing for the mind. Especially, if you are studying and need to concentrate.

I was very mad recently at my female co-worker who wrongfully accused me of harassing her at work. So the song "F YOU" (Radio version: Forget You) really helps me process that emotion.
