My 3.5 yr old constantly complains of stomach pain?

At least daily and usually multiple times a day my 3.5 yr old cries her stomach hurts. It usually passes. Somedays are worse than others, sometimes she will complain nearly all day. I have had her to the DR. She has been on medication for parasites and her urine has been checked. I was wondering if anyone else had a child around that age that complained of the same problem.

Update:

She takes a children's probiotics and sometimes a children's enzyme - I am planning on starting the enzyme more regularly.

Update 2:

She has excellent bowel movements

She doesn't really have any stress in her life, but she is painfully shy and sometimes I wonder if nerves bother her stomach - but I wouldn't think she would be anxious/nervous at home.

My child has complained of stomach aches for years and I'm told she's sensitive and that's why. That she's easily stressed. I don't know if I believe it or not. Another doctor told me that it's not uncommon during growth spurts for kids to have constant stomach aches.

I have a friend that says she had constant stomach aches as a child that was also associated with growth spurts.

They don't want to do any of the additional testing on children with stomach aches because its very painful and traumatizing, unless the child is having issues going to the bathroom. I would only really start to worry if you find blood in stools or her bathroom habits start to change.

You would be surprised at some of the things that can stress certain children out. Once I picked my daughter up from preschool and I had everything from my closet pulled out on my floor (I was spring cleaning) and she shook and cried and got extremely nervous and stressed. Some kids really are just overly sensitive by nature. Not saying that's for sure what is going on with your daughter- but just something to consider.

My sister used to constantly say age had a bad stomach before school and on Sunday nights before school the next day. That was from pretty much the week after she first started school and from then on. She has since found out (from the age of 18) that she has irritable bowel syndrome which can be brought on by stress, anxiousness, wheat, milk, fatty foods etc. I have it too and now that I'm older I can take loperimide which is an anti diarrhea tablet but at her age I would keep a food diary and keep track of foods that make her ill. The probiotic would contain yoghurt and therefore milk (lactose) as would most vitamin pills etc so I would stop that from today.

Hope you find a solution! X

I personally don't, but I do have 2 stories to share. The first one is that on tv I saw something like that, and the girl ended up having parasites. But, your child is already on medicine for that. Also, I had a friend who's parents got divorced. Apparently that was really tough on her, and she had issues like your 3.5 year old. I don't remember exactly what she ended up having, but it was something in her stomach that developed from stress, so the doctor put her on medicine and after a couple weeks, she was all better. I would suggest trying a different doctor or something, because nobody wants to suffer through stomach pain.

No, but if I did, I would think that it might be related to food sensitivities. Lactose intolerance comes to mind.

I would suggest you make a journal and write down everything she eats during the day and make a note of when the pains start, to see if you can make a connection between a specific food and the pain.

I would also give her a fairly simple diet, to make it easier to isolate the problem.

If you have not already, I would also add probiotics to her diet.

All probiotics do not contain milk. If yours does, you can find milk free acidophilus or other probiotics at a health food store.

my 7 year old grand daughter always says her tummy hurts and she wants the "pink" medicine. I tell her it's a gas bubble and maybe she needs to poop. She insists on the "pink" medicine. So let's go take a walk and sure enough she has gas and ..."Granny,I just farted" and no more tummy ache.
