Who owned the tea that went into the harbour at the Boston Tea Party?

This was a valuable cargo. Was the owner compensated? Insurance? Taken by itself the Tea Party was an act of theft and vandalism. And a fellow American suffered because of it. Anyone care about the poor guy who lost his cargo?

It belonged to the British East India Company who were taking their cargo from India to Britain and were stopped at Boston. I don't believe he was compensated financially but the Brits passed the Quartering Act forcing us to house British soldiers and driving us more against the crown.
