Why do the Republicans and Democrats hate the idea of a 3rd party more than they hate each other ?
I was chewed out because I said I may vote Tea party . I see no one on the R or D that I like . If the Tea party has no on I like then I won't vote this year . Why should it start such a big mess ?

They wish to continue to monopolize power by excluding third parties from the American political system.
It is very unnatural though, more competitive democracies like Holland and Israel and six or more political parties.
In politics the US doesn't uphold its principles of free competition and has an electoral system designed to maintain the monopoly of just two parties.

Third parties only split votes as they did with Ross Perot and Ralph Nader. A vote for the Tea Party takes a vote from the Republican ticket and gives it to the Democrats. That's probably not what a Tea Party voter really wants to do.

As another person said, because of the way our electoral system is set up, voting third party (when the third party candidate has no chance of winning) takes support away from the mainstream candidate.
I always vote Democrat even though my views align more with smaller parties, because I'd rather have the Democratic candidate in office than the Republican one.

They don't "hate." They prefer the folks they are familiar with. At least, that's the case with the folks I hang out with. Your mileage may vary.
Also, you may be making a generalization error here. Just because your friends object to the tea party, it doesn't mean they object to all 3rd parties. They may have very good reasons for viewing the tea party in particular with contempt, while still allowing that other 3rd parties could be worthy of serious consideration.

It takes from their power.
Republicans and Democrats in DC are basically one in the same. The stark difference between the two parties is in the actual voters.
There is no official Tea Party candidate. However their are candidates, usually Republican, the Tea Party backs.

I just don't like the tea Party. I support third parties, but not when they're blatantly racist and want to make the nation a mockery of it's foundation, similar to the theocracy that was old Europe.

they don't, I'm a registered Republican and I would vote 3rd party; assuming the candidate had a chance at winning and/or was very in line with my personal political beliefs.

I don't know why. Having only two parties to represent hundreds of millions is the most undemocratic thing ever. So stupid!!!

If Gary Johnson fails to win the presidency, I will blame Flipper-flop Romney for stealing away his votes.
