  • When should I visit a Buddhist temple?

I've been studying Buddhism for years, but I've never actually visited a temple before. I've found one near me, though I have no idea which day (and time) would be best to visit.

If it makes any difference, here are the only two links I can find to it.

    http://seemidtn.blogspot.com/2010/08/murfreesboros...

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lao-Buddhist-Temple...

I work full-time on third shift, so I'll probably have to try and find more flexibility in my schedule for this. Thank you for the help!

  • Are Buddhist monks allowed to hug other people?

Something I was curious about after reading about the monks. To be specific, I am asking about monks of the Theravada tradition, of all monastic types, and even those of the Thai Forest tradition (if the rules are any different among these).

    Thanks for the help!

  • Magic: the Gathering; friend summoned Satan?

Okay, so we're both Simic, and he goes on about how if he rolls a 6 with a 20-sided die, he automatically wins. If he doesn't get a 6, he automatically loses and has to give me one card from his deck to keep. He has to have at least two Forest and two Island creatures to be sacrificed. Somehow he did it, and he says Satan rips out my still-beating heart, unless I can roll a 7. I rolled a 12...

    Can he do that?

  • How would I get health insurance (21; living with grandparents)?

I don't believe my grandparents technically count as my legal guardians, so I don't think I can get on their insurance. If possible, I just want to do my own thing, but I'm not sure how or where to begin. I'm having anxiety and issues with Crohn's lately, and I really should see a doctor.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Collection Agency problems; mother used my name?

So, to sum up the story, I lived in Florida a few years ago, but have been living in Tennessee since about July 2011. Apparently, my mother had the cable we used in Florida under my name, and now a collection agency is sending me letters that I have hundreds of dollars of debt and two pieces of equipment that haven't been returned. I have letters and documentation proving that I have been living in Tennessee, which should prove that I was not the one using the cable services in Florida.

I have a few questions, and any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    My questions are:

How can I have this debt removed or shifted to her name?

Can this (if it hasn't already) ruin my credit score?

If so, can I fix my credit score once proving it isn't my debt?

As I said before, any help would be appreciated greatly. I'm only 21, finally have a job, and I'm trying to work on going to college. I really don't know what to do here.

  • Stray/feral cat dying, help please?

I was just about to leave when I spotted an orange-striped cat under my grandpa's truck. When he left, the cat stayed there for a while, hardly recognizing my presence. It seems like it has a lot of trouble meowing. Eventually, it went up the steps to our above-ground pool and actually jumped right in. It would have probably drowned if I hadn't gotten it out with a net (just barely).

Anyway, I've tried giving it both food and water, it won't eat or drink either. I presume it's dying, so what should I do? We live in rural Tennessee, far from a veterinarian, so I doubt it'd even make the trip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • No health insurance and might be autistic?

Please no comments demeaning me for my strange self-diagnosis, I'd like to leave that to a professional.

I'm quite sure I show heavy symptoms of autism, especially anxiety, OCD, and ODD. My problem is that I'm quite sure I do not have health insurance, but I'm not sure how to check. I'm 20, will be 21 in about a week. I live in Tennessee, lack a vehicle, and don't know where to even get started on getting health insurance. I live with my grandparents who are not so often available to take me places.

I'd like to know if I can still see a doctor for this without health insurance, and if so, about how much would such a thing cost. Thank you for your help.

  • Do I (probably) have Asperger's syndrome or any sort of autism?

Recently, I've been reading on Asperger's syndrome, and almost every bit of the symptoms stood out strongly to me. Before reading, I'd like to clarify that yes, I do understand that a while of reading on WebMD (or any similar resource) almost always leads to self-diagnosing to the extent of hypochondria. I'm not prone to doing this. That said, I'd like to state a few reasons why I came to this conclusion.

First of all, physical characteristics and such. I've seen videos online with people claiming to have Asperger's and stating that most fit a certain physical description. I seem to not have these traits for the most part. I have a buzzcut (and only like to have those) and I'm quite short in stature (about 5'6" or shorter). Of course, I'm sure physical description has little to do with Asperger's, but I felt this was worth mentioning.

I have a very strong memory of academic things, but not for other things. I've never had a problem with spelling and grammar (except perhaps over-punctuation and overuse of parentheses). Back in elementary school, my teachers even showed me off for this, particularly because I know how to spell and define the words "arachnophobia", "amphibian", and "encyclopedia" before learning them in school. Obviously not unheard of, but it was like this for very many things.

I was (and still can be) very awkward in social situations. As a kid, I went through, what my mother calls, "speech classes" or something because I either didn't speak correctly or didn't at all. I was extremely shy, embarrassed easily, and had this overwhelming fear of crying in front of others. Not sure why at all. I wasn't even your stereotypical nerd really, I was scared even to interact with them, conjuring up all of these silly scenarios in my head that could lead to even mild embarrassment.

Growing up, I despised homework of ANY kind. All through school I was this way. I always got my classwork done in little time and I aced my tests. However, when it came to finding the self-discipline or willingness to just get myself to a table and do my homework, I can't think of anything that was much more difficult for me. Thankfully, I got through school for my test grades and such, regardless of my truancy and lack of homework.

I'm fairly certain I have OCD to some degree. I count everything I do. I've memorized the amount of steps it takes to go up and down the steps at the dock at my father's (94). I MUST begin on my left foot if I'm counting steps. Also, I like to constantly add numbers on a clock. When turning the volume on a TV or computer, it has to be an even number or a factor of five. When I made contact with an object by hand, I had to do the same with my other hand. If the first to contact the object was my right hand, I had to make up for it with the following pattern: R,L,L,R; L,R,R,L; L,R,R,L; R,L,L,R.

To elaborate more on the OCD, I wash my hands constantly throughout the day, especially knowing if they'll touch something that I'm going to eat or if I'm going to bring them into/near my mouth for any reason. As a teenager, I was so afraid of the thought of having a disease, that I'm confident that if I would have learned that I had an STD or something of the sort back then, I would have committed suicide. I'm quite certain it was that strong.

There are probably many more examples I could list, and I'll be sure to add them if I can think of them. If you have any expertise in diagnosing syndromes within the spectrum of autism or the like, please let me know if these symptoms would meet a diagnosis. If you would like to contact me to ask questions give help of any kind, please message me at jcferrell931@gmail.com. Thank you for your help.

  • Monitor dims when using laptop mouse pad?

Now this is an odd problem. Never heard of it, nor can I find any instance of it on Google.

When I use my mouse pad on my laptop (the one you use you drag your fingers on), my screen goes very dark and sometimes flashes back to being bright. When I plug in a new mouse into a USB drive and use it, everything's fine though. So I can adapt to this, but I'm just wondering if there's any way to fix it or prevent any further problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • Could I get a Computer Science degree to try and become a software developer?

I'm wanting to eventually learn software development and would like to try and find a career in it as well. Is Computer Science my best option? I ask because it's the closest thing that I could find relating to software development nearby.

  • Legal Guardianship: How would I find out who my legal guardians are, and can I appoint one?

Long story short, I've had a very turbulent life, and I've lived with several family members, including my mother, father, and grandparents on both sides. I need to know if my grandparents on my father's side can be considered my legal guardians, considering I've been living with them for about two years, and about five or six before I moved back in.

I'm currently 20, and I still need to list legal guardians on some paperwork, especially involving taxes. Is there a place I can call to find out who my legal guardians are? At 20, is it too late to have my grandparents on my father's side to be considered legal guardians, if they're not already?

  • What should I do to prepare myself to learn Kung Fu later?

After a few months, once I have a sustainable income and such, I plan on taking classes for Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. I've been deeply interested in learning martial arts since I was very young, and now I think I'd like to pursue teaching it some day. Obviously though, I have to learn it myself before that can happen.

My question is, what should I do in the meantime? Are there any specifics exercises or techniques I should try and learn that will help my performance?

(PS: I meditate once a day for at least 30 minutes, I do at least 20 sit-ups and push-ups, several reps with 2kg dumbells, and I also do at least 20 lateral raises with those same dumbells. I'm open to completely overhauling my routine.)

  • Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Uniform?

I'm just wondering if there's a specific sort of uniform that a student of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu is supposed to wear, or if this just depends on the teacher and school.

    Thanks!

Preferable sources would be YouTube channels, Facebook pages, email subscriptions, or websites. Your help is greatly appreciated.

  • Did Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z have the same writer?

This should probably be common sense to me, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. The reason I doubt it is because of the stark differences in the storylines.

  • Is our dog dying (not moving for anything)?

She's not exactly our dog, but we've been caring for her. She can to our door a while back with an infection on her tail. We had someone come out and take a look at it, and they gave her a shot, but it never seemed to go away.

For the last few days though, she hasn't been up and moving at all really. She acts as though she can't even move her right hind leg. She seems to be weak, shaky, and short of breath, but she perks up quite a bit when I come over to her and pet or talk to her. She even lifts her head up and wags her tail, so she doesn't seem to be all too weak.

We'd like to take her to a vet, but can't until tomorrow as we live out far into the country, it's a Saturday, and the nearest vet clinic won't be open tonight. Is there anything we can do?

  • What should I get, HughesNet or Excede/Wild Blue?

We currently have HughesNet, but I'd really like to start streaming music and play games online again. Thing is, I really don't know if canceling for Excede/Wild Blue is such a good idea, because they don't give us a trial period to decide whether we like the service or not.

    Any recommendations?

  • What is the conservative/libertarian solution for healthcare?

I know the liberal/progressive solution is to regulate and/or subsidize it, but I'd like to hear a fiscally conservative solution. What would happen to the cost of treatment for the average person? How about people with preexisting conditions?

  • Can I get a Crohn's diagnosis removed somehow?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's a few years back, and had to undergo some treatments. I haven't had any problems with it for well over a year or so, and I live a perfectly normal life. I've been wanting to join the Peace Corps for a very long time now, and apparently Crohn's is a disqualification. I know that the Peace Corps can be pretty tough, but I'd like to help, experience a new culture, and help improve my self-discipline.

So my question is, is there a way to get a diagnosis for Crohn's removed from my record so I am no longer disqualified? If not, is there some other way I could possibly join, even having it as a diagnosis? Thanks for your answers!
