Collection Agency problems; mother used my name?

So, to sum up the story, I lived in Florida a few years ago, but have been living in Tennessee since about July 2011. Apparently, my mother had the cable we used in Florida under my name, and now a collection agency is sending me letters that I have hundreds of dollars of debt and two pieces of equipment that haven't been returned. I have letters and documentation proving that I have been living in Tennessee, which should prove that I was not the one using the cable services in Florida.

I have a few questions, and any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

My questions are:

How can I have this debt removed or shifted to her name?

Can this (if it hasn't already) ruin my credit score?

If so, can I fix my credit score once proving it isn't my debt?

As I said before, any help would be appreciated greatly. I'm only 21, finally have a job, and I'm trying to work on going to college. I really don't know what to do here.

You can fight it, but you are most likely going to have to file a police report for fraud against your mother. Once the police report is filed, you can then contact the collection agency and say that the debt isn't yours, send them the police report, and if they try to report the debt to the credit bureau, you can dispute it as not yours. Of course, the collection agency will turn the debt back over to the cable company who will then go after your mother for the back bills and possibly fraud.

Where you see one roach, there are others.

When was the last time you looked at your credit reports. Not a score.

You seemed focused on a score. What needs to worry you is the reports information.

Report this as fraud, and mom gets a criminal record. Call her and see if she will just pay the bill.
