no. it's not like it's illegal to buy a older car without all the fancy technology.

I still use paper maps. AAA maps my aunt got when she moved to the US in 1960. I have a GPS but it takes the fun out of driving. I only use it if I'm totally lost or I need ot find the nearest gas station immediately. My maps are ridiculously ancient. The LA county one is practically useless. it's from 1958! But I don't mind, last month I got to drive the grapevine (kind of) it was a like a drive back in time! these days it doesn't even show up on the maps.

Source(s): I don't like technology that much, I think reliance of technology makes people dumb. It probably does, 20 years ago if you asked someone an intelligent question they'd know the answer. today, they'd tell you to google it. why bother to learn anything if it's on Google or Wikipedia and instantly accessible within seconds? I worry this dependence of technology will lead to disaster and self-destruction. So I make a statement by living apart from technology. if the internet falls I won't be lost and helpless like 50% of the digital generation.

Most of the time despite what auto manufacturers will tell you, driving is never fun. The quality of cars, while a real blessing compared to the junks of 30 to 40 years ago contribute to a dumbing down of the average driver. Average driver does not DRIVE the car, car is merely guided. The shunning of the manual transmission was the death nell of driving fun. And has contributed greatly to the vast surplus of inattentive drivers.

Modern cars are quite competent -- boring, not interesting, not fun.

Cars were fun because you needed to do to keep it working, you had to know. Nowadays you are not even legally allowed to do things we did. When I was a kid I could ride in the back seat, window open, head stuck out in the wind. In '65 I had a '61 Sprite -- no locks, no side windows, no safety crap. It had a 995cc engine that could top 80 mph if it had a tailwind. But it was fun. Now, any car can top 100 mph, most can do 120-130 mph.
