Is it legal to eat dog in the UK?

I know this'll make some people mad but this is a serious question. I don't plan on kicking her to death or anything. I will dispatch her humanely, much in the same way most pastoral farm animals are done. I was just wondering if here in the UK there were any laws stopping me doing so.

If anybody could let me know the exact law I would be very grateful.

    With all the different meat available in the UK. what is this fixation you seem to have for eating a poor dog? Perhaps you should see a doctor, and eat some medication, not some poor dog.

    Wow, that is seriously messed up. How can you eat your own pet?! Your pets love and trust you, how could you just kill them? Go eat some celery!
