How to get better about stage fright?

So at the college I go to, we have the option to do private voice lessons. I'm taking them just because I love to sing and can always use pointers about technique and whatnot. And then at the end of the semester, we perform a song for everyone else who took lessons (and anyone family-wise who watches). Well I get nervous really easily singing in front of people even if I know the song inside out and backwards and could perform it standing on my head in my sleep (well not really, but you get the idea). So are there any ideas on how I can get over being so nervous about singing in front of people? Or should I ask my instructor?

Update:

I would use a guitar, but my instructor accompanies me.

Don't be nervous! Think positive about yourself. What can possibly happen? Nothing bad. It's just a little performance. Show people your singing skill and talent, what you're capable of and what you can do. Don't just keep it inside of you. If you love to sing, show it. Let people know you love to sing and that you took these private singing lessons for a reason. I know how you feel about stage fright. It's really.. frighting and nerve racking. You can't stop thinking about it and whenever you think about it, your tummy gets butterflies and your heart starts beating like crazy. But once you're there singing in front of the people and you're done singing. You just want to do it again and again... Trust me. It's just like saying a speech in front of your class or a bunch of people you don't know. Just pretend that your singing instructor is just there and just sing. If that helps. Or even, just look at the wall behind the audience or even close your eyes from time to time when you sing. Just do it! Don't be nervous, just show people what you can do.. People are not going to laugh at you or anything. What is there to nervous about? Ask that question to yourself? Why are you nervous? Answer that. Is it because you're singing in front of other people Or scared they might say something bad? Well, if you can sing to your signing instructor, why not sing to other people, so they can hear how amazing your voice is. Practice the song your going to be performing so you're ready to perform that song. Now.. I haven't heard you sing before, so I can't judge you. But, I bet you have an amazing voice that some people die for that voice. So be confident and show people WHAT YOU CAN DO! Good luck!

Uugghh! I so know how you feel. Practice in front of a group of friends or maybe take publice speech lessons. My former english teacher made us get up and do presentations all the time.
