Why do some liberals act like the federal government is a jobs program?

And that those jobs should not even be looked at to see if they are really necessary?

Maybe because conservatives keep blaming the federal government for the lack of job growth in the country. Maybe because liberals see government as necessary to solve the problems that the private sector refuses to address, like the current lack of jobs for Americans. If rich people in the private sector are too cheap to pay American levels of wages, then they will have to pay more in taxes to help support all of the unemployed Americans. At least Americans who work in public sector jobs provide services for the American people. Try asking the people in Colorado if we need to lay off more firefighters in order to balance government budgets.

The government can and does create a lot of jobs through the military, educational system, infrastructure, and other social programs. The government is responsible for many jobs weather you like it or not. They just need to spend more money on infrastructure and education and maybe a bit less on military defense.

So if government jobs are the problem, why don't Republican Congresspeople introduce, and vote for, a bill to lay themselves off? Are John Boehner or Mitch McConell REALLY necessary?

Don't know which jobs or which liberals you are talking about. Do you mean the politicians or the armed forces, postman, teachers, firefighters, policemen, road workers? Seems to me they are just as much Republican as Democrat. Actually at the moment I don't know anyone personally who does work for the government.

You do realize the government is actually just a collection of several peoples' jobs right? It is not a metallic machine that operates on fuel, it is collective unit run on people-power, so, ya, it's a jobs program...or it wouldn't even exist.

The $700 billion of annual military spending is a huge jobs program for defense contractors.

There's a guy called Mitt who seems really, really desperate for a government job.

There's a whole congress of republicans who I don't see voting their own compensation down, even when it becomes apparent that they don't do sh1t.

You poor poor child.Republicans have never reduced the size of government. "We support smaller government" is nothing but their election slogan.

It sounds more like someone claiming to be liberal who is not.
