Question for a navy veteran who sailed in the pacific?

When aircraft carriers sail in the pacific do they usually sail in a formation of destroyers and frigates or is that something they only did in world war 2

    I floated with both the Constellation and Enterprise battle groups. This was back in the early 80s. Aircraft Carriers never float without support.

    They sail as part of a carrier battle group (CVBG) or a carrier strike group (CSG)

    Yep carriers sail with ten ships pull into port with 10000 Sailors looking for beer, girls and fun. I was on smaller ships that sailed by them self. We put it and the port was usually ours, hospital ship and repair ship, both decommissioned........................
