Is it bad to ditch class when you're in college?

I'm such a loser, I'm coming into my senior year and I have summer classes and I've decided that I'm not going today and it's FREAKING me out. I'm so nervous that something big is happening in class right now as I type this and I'm not going to know. Like what if he assigns something due next week?!? In ALL of my years in college I've always prided myself on going entire semesters never missing a lecture in classes. I feel like I'm a failure for not going to this class today, but at the same time I don't want to. Like in my mind I just don't want to go. Do you think it will be okay to miss class just one time?? Other people in the class have been absent and I've noticed they come back and just ask for missed assignments, but it's hard because I'm such a goody two shoes student. :/ lol

The class ends at noon, so it's 3 hours and theres 2 hours left... I don't want to go. My roommate is in the same class though, but I feel like if I ask her what happened then she'll think I'm a bad student. It sounds crazy, but I've always been extremely obedient as a student. Help me!

Whether or not it's bad depends.

In this case, a day's class is the equivalent of a week's worth of classes in the regular semester, so that's a bigger deal than missing a one-hour class.

I assume there isn't an attendance policy that means you'll be penalized for missing class, and I assume you know for sure that there won't be a quiz or an in-class assignment. If those things are true, then missing class isn't likely to affect your grade except in the sense that missing material will hurt you later.

As far as that goes, you'll be expected to get the notes from a classmate -- you're still responsible for everything that happens, and the professor is not expected to re-teach the class for someone who misses it -- so as long as you have someone you can go to when class ends in order to find out what happened, you'll probably be fine. And your roommate is probably that person. Just ask to borrow her notebook and go photocopy the notes for today. Deciding not to get the notes from someone else would be a bad move -- remember, this is the equivalent of missing a week of class during a regular semester, and not knowing what happened during a whole week would be a big deal.

You're an adult. It's your call whether or not to attend class, so long as you accept the consequences of your decision. And if you won't be penalized for missing class, and if you won't be missing any in-class work, and if you have a way to get the notes, and if you are able to reconstruct the details of the lecture on the basis of those notes, the consequences are likely to be minimal.

    So enjoy your day off.

First of all, RELAX! your fine... It happens. Congradulations for being such a hard working student. That is hard to come by. Take this time to just relax. Missing one class is not going to do anything to you at all.

I have missed classes here and there and have never failed a class yet. It is always a risk to miss class because of important things in lectures, pop quizes, etc. But honestly, this is your first time missing class? Then I really don't know why you are so worried. I see you are a goody two shoes, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy your life.

Uh it depends. Make sure there isn't a pop quiz on that day, you will miss of course attendance points (which are a small part of your grade), and maybe group activities. Also you need to email your prof, or they might take it personally, and they have a lot of power over your grade. If they don't like you, it will hurt you more, I'm certain.

I missed a week this semester, but got in touch with my profs about it (I was sick) and I still got an A in both classes. Use your best judgement. It is better to go and suffer though, in the long run.

You'll be fine. The only bad thing about missing classes is that you can potentially miss a lot of material. However, because you are such a good student, I think you can catch up quickly. You will be fine! Just ask your roomie. It is actually more normal to miss class then to go to it I think so she won't think you are a bad student.

I think so because you should make it count if it's your last year of college. Don't be afraid to ask your roommate because if he/she is truly ur friend, they'll understand that sometimes you need a break from class and it's good that ur actually makig an effort to find out what happend. You should go to your classes because what you learned that day will really help you in the future. Don't give up, ur almost done with college! Good luck :D
