What contradictions can you name in the bible? All those who can counter the said contradictions are welcome?

Just curious of what everyone has to say.

This was well answered several years ago (by someone else).

    Context is everything.

    Starting with Flying Penguins:

Verses about God being peaceful and warlike. Image! God acts in different ways according to the scenario. Not a contradiction.

Genealogies of Joseph are clearly two different genealogies. One is Joseph's own, and the other is likely via Joseph's father-in-law, Heli=Eliakim, an alternate name for Jehoiachim (see 2Chr 36:4, though a different man) = Joachim -- the traditional name for Mary's father in the Eastern Orthodox faith. An alternate explanation is that these are of Joseph's father and a step-father; legally, they have the same link back to David, so the requirement of the prophecies is filled. No contradiction.

Matt 28:1 and Mark 16:1 state precisely the same thing -- Mary Magdalene, and Mary (not the mother of Jesus, but the "other" one -- that Mary identified as being also at the cross, and a relative of Jesus' mother -- see John 19:25) -- so no contradiction between them.

John 20:1 - this account is about Mary Magdalene and what she did. Same time, same place as the others -- but told about one player. No contradiction, but a different focus than the other accounts.

    Then Dave:

Some mumblings about Cain. Cain was banished -- and went into a different place, where he met and married his wife, and had a bunch of children. Who was the wife? Likely a sister, or a cousin, for Adam and Eve had many other children besides Cain, Abel, and Seth. So did Seth (See Gen 5:4,7). There is no hint of any contradiction.

    Then humanist:

God "tempted" Abraham means "tested", or "proved", or "put to the test" [1]. The context of James is truly to tempt with evil, which God does not do. But we are put to the test. Again, context is everything. This is not a contradiction.

    Then Michael:

Blind men healed...Mark 10 & Luke 18 - "blind Bartemaus", a single particularly notable instance recalled. Does not mean there were not others. In fact, there were, as you point out. Thanks. No contradiction though.

The term "contradiction" seems to be very loosely used by those who point to two different accounts, and say "See! See!" See what? That two different accounts can be written for different reasons and with different details emphasized? Yes, of course they can. And in the case of those accounts pointed out here, they can easily be reconciled.

There are no credible contradictions here. And, yes, we can explain some things better than others. But the Bible is the book of the Church, and we take it as it is.

    Forgive me.

that's impossible to construct a single coherent narrative related to the resurrection and the era in the past the ascension which includes all info advised in multiple gospels and in Acts. There are way too many contradictions. The beginning narratives in Matthew and Luke get Jesus born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth by way of 2 distinctive and incompatible thoughts. some verses say that the earth will undergo continuously, some say that it will end. some say that salvation is thru faith on my own, some say that works are mandatory. some say that the regulation is continuously, some areas say that Christians do no longer could desire to obey the previous covenant. There are 2 flood narratives woven jointly, and the main factors fluctuate in some significant procedures. There are 2 distinctive and incompatible thoughts approximately how David got here to the royal courtroom. There are 2 distinctive and incompatible thoughts approximately how Judas died. The synoptic gospels say that Jesus did no longer carry out signs and warning signs and miracles for the sake of having human beings to have self belief in him. John says specially that he performed signs and warning signs so as that human beings might have self belief.

It's amusing to read all these so called contradictions when they take them out of context, I think that there is not one that I read here that I haven't come across and rather than say there are none my email address is open just send me one at a time that is if you want Bible answers not mans opinions!

There are no true contradictions. All I have ever been presented with in this light is a list of misreadings and ideas pulled out of context. Yes, even my university professors who claimed to have found "many contradictions" couldn't actually produce a single one. They only babbled on, repeating what they'd heard from other people without any real thought. "Contradictions" that any plain reading of the context would have revealed to be no contradiction at all.

Specify what contradictions. A lot of them do exist. No one can counter them, since you have one biblical statement contradicting another.

That's like asking us to find quotes from Mitt Romney where in he contradicts himself.

PSA 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

JER 13:14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

EXO 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

ROM 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.

MAT 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

MAR 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

JOH 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

    And so on.

EXO 15:3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.

ROM 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

This isn't a contradiction. Obviously there is a time and place for war and a time for peace.

Shouldn't really require much explanation - Assuming a person comes from a good family, I would imagine they could easily see how their parents would got to war to defend their children while still being peaceful people, and how the war was necessary to provide the peace.

MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.

And Mary gave birth to Jesus. Joseph was Jesus' father - exactly what point of confusion are they trying to point out?

PRO 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

ECC 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Read Ecclesiastes - the entire book is how meaningless everything is without God.

    Ecclesiastes 2 - “Meaningless! Meaningless!”

    says the Teacher.

    “Utterly meaningless!

    Everything is meaningless.”

    Ecclesiastes 12:13

    13 Now all has been heard;

here is the conclusion of the matter:

Fear God and keep his commandments,

for this is the duty of all mankind.

So he concludes with "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of mankind." And the fear of the Lord IS the beginning of wisdom, as stated many times throughout Scripture. See Below.

    Psalm 110:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

    Proverbs 9:10

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

So Proverbs 4:7 and Ecclesiastes 1:18 do not conflict. The latter is a musing that it is meaningless due to having it without God with the conclusion of the entire book completely agreeing with Proverbs 4:7.

1CO 1:19: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

This is not a contradiction. God is speaking of destroying so-called wisdom. Being wise by worldly standards does not mean one has acquired anything - as you see in Ecclesiastes - without God it is all for nothing.

    Read in full context:

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

    “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;

the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

You can even see how this worldly wisdom works in the allegations made of contradictions with these verses. It doesn't stack up.

How many blind men did Jesus heal on his way out of Jericho? Was it one (Mark 10:46, Luke 18:35) or two (Matthew 20:30)?

I suspect that you may have some apologists answer here.

But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21
