Blake vs Bolt, two sprinters from the same little island competing at the Olympics two main events for some, the 100m and 200m races. Bolt once was, and still is the fastest man ever known, but Blake is now. It will be interesting to watch them two no matter what once they are competing. Anyone in my opinion competing in the race can win it, I wonder will we see Usain's bolt of lightning pace, or even a white man walking away with the gold medals?

How about the USA and China or Russia. I'm Canadian and I'm, hoping for Canada to win some medals but they only have something like 277 athletes. The US has something like 529 and China and Russia have pretty big teams too. So I'm basing this mainly on the number of athletes competing. The more athletes, the greater the chance of rivalry and winning events. Wasn't that a terrific opening ceremonies? I loved the way the British illustrated their history through the ages. Just think of the creativity and mind it would take to put a presentation together like that- genius! I really liked the part with Mr. Bean and Chariots of Fire. The British certainly have some really hilarious humor!

The Olympics are unfair. No rivalry interests me. The rich white countries like GB, USA and Australia with their tons of money which they throw at their athletes will win most of the medals. And of course China.
There may be better athletes in Africa and other poor nations but without the money and facilities of the rich countries above they will not get a chance to enter the games
Are the athletes who win medals really the best in the world? No apart from the few African winners they are the wealthiest athletes in the world. They are fortunate to come from countries who are able to buy success.
The Olympic games are therefore phoney. It's a case of the rich beating the poor.
It perpetuates the myth of the superiority of some nations over others. It proves the old adage that money can buy you anything.
Let the Australians (Americans, Chinese, British etc) train on barren fields in sweltering heat without shoes and other equipment and lets see how many medals they win.

Undoubtedly now it's Korea vs. Germany after the infamous Shin fencing incident!
Denying her the shot at a Gold medal by Germany, with Korea's appeal of the decision made due to a faulty clock being denied.
It's been obvious to the whole world that Shin won. She was up by 1 point with only 1 second left and the clock did not stop, giving the German the opportunity to score again. Then making the girl wait for a 1/2 hour on the mat while they decided against her, making her cry. Shame on the Olympics , the judges , anyone involved. Shin won.
If Korea and Germany come head-to-head in any event, it will get ugly, likely bloody. The media will be all over it!

I just love watching all those young people doing things that I have never ever been able to do! Doesn't matter what country they are from, just knowing that these are the cream of the crop (and it's all so transient, someday they will be old like me) is so exciting and I want them all to win. Which they sort of have since how many of us can say we competed in the World Olympic Games??? I think they each are great and their physical prowess is not the only thing they have going--they have to get themselves into a certain mind set so everything else doesn't distract them. I'd never even be able to concentrate or want to compete in a very very local, minor manner and here are those Olympic kids breaking world records and competing against the world's best. Just takes your breath away.

Definately the US vs China. Anything where they are against each other. Next I would say the Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte rivalry, although Michael Phelps doesn't really have much to prove seeing as he has 30 world records, and is only 2 medals away from being the most decorated Olympian of all time, something I believe he will accomplish soon. :)

First of all, it's rivalries. Not 'rivalry's.' You would think that the professional staff of a website such as Yahoo would know basic grammar. Also, I don't think 'biggest' would be the best word to describe a rivalry. I don't see how it's based on size. I think 'most competitive' would be far more fitting for the question.
Moving on, in my opinion, the most competitive rivalry of the Summer Olympics would have to be China versus the USA in overall medal count. China will surely win more gold, however due to the USA's vast amount of swimmers they could possibly challenge China for overall medals.
Source(s): Basic grammar and common sense, two things which many seem to lack. - Anonymous9 years ago
I find it funny reading the americans saying none "the us are number 1"
The 100m 200m i think there is no competition aslong as he doesnt full start bolt will clean up, why? He's the fastest man on the planet and if not him his training mate and if not the other Jamaican running.
Tyson Gay will not even get a medal jamaica 123
Cycling is where the brittish will clear up it was 11 golds last time i think...
Everyone stating the obvious USA v CHINA in medals, the two most economically developed countries in the world.
Fun fact number 1 the country with most golds to population is new zealand, heard that at the opening ceromony

Depends on which sport you are talking about, a good chance for China, as well as the host country Great Britain. It seems that the host country always do well in the Olympics for some reason. Take a look at the previous years. Again it depends on the sport you are asking about or are you asking who will get the most Golds, Silvers, and Bronzes?

One event I’ll be paying particular attention to is swimming. This will be Michael Phelps’s final Olympic Games, and after his explosive performance in the 2008 Beijing Games, he’ll be getting plenty of attention this time around. But will it be a repeat of 2008? Well…I’m not sure. Last year, there was a lot of pressure on Phelps to win all those gold medals and make Olympic history, and I think that really impacted his performances and gave him the drive to grab all the gold. This year, the pressure, though it’s still immense when compared to other sports, has lessened a little bit. I think Phelps will still do very well and do Team USA proud, but I don’t expect a repeat performance.
Also Swimming, gymnastics and diving are my favorite events. I also like the synchronized swimming and diving events even if most people think they're cheesy, lol.

You can tell who the real gymnastics fans are...the main rivalry in women's gymnastics is USA vs. Russia, not China. In men's gymnastics yes, but women's no. The Chinese women actually went downhill in the past 4 years, it's the Russians and Romanians shining in the world of women's gumnastics nowadays with china in a close 3rd and 4th. Let's just hope that the 'fab five' will get the gold :)
As for the biggest rivalry by country, china vs. USA, always will be in the medal count.
As for person by person, Ryan lochte vs. Michael phelps of course!
