Talking to women in nail salons?

I work at a nail salon for my parents and I REALLY need to learn to keep my clients coming back. I do a really great job, but that's not enough for the town I'm living in. I have to talk, but when I do talk, I talk about things that interest me. I like to talk about religion, politics, war, history, careers, death, philosophy, etc, but the women at the nail salon don't care about that. They always talk about their hair, nails, and kids.

Can you help give me some topics to bring up? And how I should treat them?

Thanks.

Update:

Thanks, everyone, especially Jenny and Sapient.

Sapient, I'm an Atheist, too. lol. Why did my parents pick this business?! ugh...

What you need to do is to learn to do is make small talk. This is chatter about inconsequential matters, like celebrity or sports gossip, or the newest movies. The subjects you must avoid are sex, politics, and religion. Now, personally, those are the subjects that I find most fascinating, but I have some rather strong opinions on them (I'm an atheist, and I live in Texas) which are not popular.

What you might do is just chatter about nail care. Talk about the latest trends in nails, even if your client is a 75 year old great grandma who wants to have the same old Shell Pink on her nails.

Or learn to do active listening. In this technique, what you do is you ask a generic question like "How are you today?" and ask what else she's done today, or what she plans to do. If she says that she's going shopping, or been shopping, ask what she's shopping for, and where to go. If she complains about her kid, ask about the kid. Comment on the weather, and how you hope that the heat wave or cold spell breaks soon. You only have to remember to pick out some key words, ask about those words, and let the client jabber on. Amazingly enough, this is one of the techniques that shrinks use...and if you can learn it, your clients will feel that you are a great conversationalist, even though they are doing 95% of the talking. And they'll want to come back again and again.

I consider you asked a very legit query and there was once absolutely nothing incorrect together with your query or the way you worded it. I've perpetually wondered the same factor. I are living in a lovely great area of fortress worth TX and they're ALL asians within the nail salons right here. I do feel it is since it's more often than not now not that tricky to gain knowledge of that exchange, and it would not require numerous English as a way to grasp the talent. Nonetheless, I think they're being beautiful racist via consistently speakme of their language in entrance of english best speaking humans. I myself converse two languages and that i was once perpetually taught not to communicate another language than these around me in a public area....It seems rude. So, with that being stated i'm lovely certain we will all proceed to peer asians working in that distinct field since they make an excellent residing doing it.

Gossip about retarded nonsense they'll lap it up, or if they're going on holiday or where they'd like to go, shopping, ecetra. Maybe talk in a high pitched voice and act excited over small things.

I pray that your brain doesn't turn into mush by talking to these superficial ladies. Hopefully there might be one worthy whom you can talk to about more interesting things with but don't get your hopes up, it's a nail salon, regular customers have more money than sense.

Treat them as you would anyone, politely, get things for them, if they have a coat, offer to carry it or put it somewhere. Gentlemanly?

Read a tabloid paper each week (like the National Enquirer). Women love ripping on celebrities. Ask them if they heard about the latest Kardashian blah blah. They keep up on all that juicy stuff.
