Do Christians have to go to heaven?

Can they choose simple oblivion, without the onerous afterlife?

Update:

Oblivion certainly has its appeal.

Update 2:

What if I want to do good, but don't want to go to heaven/ An omnipotent god doesn't offer more than two alternatives. Not very impressive.

Nobody has to go to heaven. We are all given free will. You can make a conscious free will choice not to go there if you wish. The alternative is pretty terrible though.

The reason there is no "oblivion" after death is because we as humans have an immortal spirit component that never dies. We are like God in that respect. That's what is being talked about when the Bible says that we are created in the image and likeness of God. It is talking about the spirit. Our physical bodies, our soul, both of those will eventually cease to exist. The spirit will always remain.

Humans are tripartate beings - in other words we are composed of three things -

    1 A physical body

2 A soul, which is basically our thoughts, emotions, will, intellect, personality

    3 Our immortal spirit

A lot of modern day writers and so called "experts" sometimes confuse number 2 and 3 or lump them together but they are seperate and distinct

When we are in heaven we actually will be given new perfect bodies that are unlike anything on earth. We will have no need of earthly family, friends. lovers etc because we will love everyone there with a more perfect and stronger love than anything experienced here on earth. So everyone else in heaven along with God Himself will be our "family".

God is God and can work however he pleases to. If He offers only two choices that is by His design and not because of any limitations on His part. As God said to Isaiah in the Old Testament "My ways are not your ways"

Read Psalm 139 for the viewpoint of someone who truly understands who and what God is, and how He works. You obviously don't know God very well.

There are only a limited number that will go to heaven and serve under Jesus, ruling over mankind:

Revelation 14:1 - And I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.

When God's Kingdom comes, many will be resurrected:

John 5:28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

Everyone will be given a chance to live on earth forever under God's rule:

(Psalm 37:10-11) And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be. 11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

The afterlife is only onerous if you are going to hell.

You obviously know nothing about God. Nothing!

you watch too many vampire and zombie programs.

Perhaps you will change your mind before you die.

God is the judge, so He will judge you. If you have been good you will go to Heaven and if you have been bad, then you may not go to Heaven.
