Which current captain would you say has the best leadership qualities?

Which current AFL captain would you say has the best Leadership qualities and also are there any players who aren't captains but you think should be?

Its hard to pick, there are alot of great captains but i would say Mathew Pavlich, He has been one of the gun players of the Competition and if he was drafted into his childhod team of Adelaide or even any of the top Victorian clubs he would probably have a chance at the Brownlow. I just admire the way he Leads the Fremantle Footy club. They havent had much success since he has been there but the way he has stuck with them and constantly tries to motivate his players is a great quality to have.

    1. Yzerman, Sakic, and Apps. 2. Iginla 3. I will consider LITY, Ramage it is. 4. Eric Brewer 5. Tim Horton @Kay So its entirely Sundin's fault that he did not play on a team excellent or lucky sufficient to win a Stanley Cup? He captained Sweden to a gold medal, which is extra then quite a few captains ever comprehensive of their careers. Sundin was once far from the worst captain of all time, let on my own in the final decade. In fact, most would argue he was once one of the vital higher captains within the final twenty years. @Bob You will have to try not being hypocritical for once. You invariably claim to be telling of the "info" however but preach ignorant and flat out flawed opinions? Phaneuf is a melanoma within the lockerroom, how? Are you in the lockerroom or are you basing this on a reporters rumor? I will tell you that Sjostrom, Jokinen, and Cammalleri have all mentioned that those rumors are false. I've wrote this earlier than and i am certain you could have obvious it before so why do not you write it? Or does it not suit your pathetic Leaf hating agenda? Bottom line, Phaneuf is 1-0 as a captain in games that really matter. One of these horrible captain very well (stay in tuition Bob!)

First of all Matty, I agree with you that it's hard to pick, in fact it's impossible to pick, I think all the Captains have great leadership qualities, Mathew Pavlich included, but I don't agree that by being drafted to Adelaide or any of the top Victorian clubs that he'd have any more a chance at winning the Brownlow, in fact he'd have more chance at Freo, he's been their best player for a number of years and should be getting the Brownlow Votes in winning games, If he was in a top side he'd get less because he'd have players taking votes off him.

Pav is well respected in Victoria, don't you worry about that.

I'd have to agree with Jobe Watson. A captain to me is a role model and someone who rarely gets in trouble, doesn't care about the off-field stuff, just focuses on footy and getting the best out of the team as possible. That's definitely Jobe Watson for me. His work-rate in games where they are losing is admirable, and everything you want from a captain.

Captains like Judd and Brown are great, and they definitely have leadership qualities - but Judd is eye gouging people, tugging peoples arms, Brown is getting in a fight every week! Which is fine, but I just think Jobe doesn't worry about that stuff, he just plays the game - great captain for me.

Source(s): I'm also a huge fun of Andrew Swallow - great, young captain who is very team oriented and does his job week in, week out. Pavlich of course as well, probably the equal best captain in the league - what a star - forward and midfield, good sport, carries the team and is team oriented - absolute superstar!

Jonathan Brown. He leads with his heart on his sleeve. His courageous, a great player and always gives 100% in every game, he certainly has all the attributes of a great leader.

I reckon Matt McGuire would make a fantastic captain as every player would just want to play for him. Brent Harvey also sticks out for me because of knowledge of the same game and because he knows what it takes to be a premiership player.

Jonathon Brown I think...Pavlich as well, Luke Hodge (when he is actually fit and playing) spring to mind.

I agree with Brown just in presence and belief, but a tad surprised that Hodge has escaped a mention so far.
