Unsure about undercover cop?

I'm going to try to be as detailed as possible.

Around 5pm today my family and I went out to the pool, we have a variety of resident cops in our condos, and every once in a while they come in to use the bathroom. Cops in Jacksonville usually wear black uniforms, but my boyfriend noticed this guy was in dark green with other normal cop apparel (radio guns etc).

Later I went to take the dog on a run and this cop drives up in a truck, asking me if I've seen anything suspicious. Him and another undercover cop have been and are going to keep scoping out the place for suspicious activity.( I don't remember exactly what he said but this is FL so there are drugs everywhere and there is always undercover work going on.)

He said he needed to jot down my name to put in his report/notes. And he needed my condo number. Well, I know giving false info to the police will get you in trouble, so I gave him my real info. Then when he was driving away, I saw he had Georgia plates (we're about 40 miles from GA).

He told me the other undercover cop was in a red car (and tonight there is a red car driving around with GA plates).

He looked mostly professional, and the truck and red car were nicer looking. It just seems weird that he told me they were undercover. Now he's at the end of the lane with his headlights on. And I feel stupid for giving him my name.

Update:

I'm not doing anything illegal either, so I'm really just worried that he's a fake cop. Or he was one that got laid off and is doing weird stuff, or even some real cops around here are crooked

Your instincts are good but your actions are not. No real undercover police officer is going to tell you he/she is undercover. That kind of defeats the purpose.

Call your local police station RIGHT NOW! Sounds to me like you got a guy who is pretending to be a cop. In any case, the real cops will check it out. My guess is that he is not a cop but a private investigator. However, since he is implying he is a cop, if he isn't, that is a felony.

Don't feel foolish calling the police station about this. Its better to make a mistake on this than be right and not to have reported it. Believe me, there is no cause for an undercover cop to have GA plates if he is in FL.

The whole senario as you describe it is so totally wrong & weird!

Undercover cops do not reveal themselves to normal folks like you that they happen to encounter on the streets! I'm afraid that those ol' boys from Georgia were some kind of 'wannabes!' Your guess is as good as mine regarding what they were doing in your apartment complex!

Over the years, I have been 'pulled over' 3 times by guys who appeared to be police officers but were not! Each time I realized that they were not real police and drove off. Each time, I reported this via calling 911. Each time I was told to "never drive off from a police officer!" "HELLO, PEOPLE! THESE WERE NOT REAL POLICE OFFICERS!" The reply was always..."never drive off from a police officer!"

Contacting your local police about this may give you some satisfaction...or it may be as frustrating as my experience!

Frankly, I would stay as far away from the Truck Guy and the Red Car Guy as possible. I don't think they are real undercover agents. And if they are...what do they want with you!?!

I think I would definitely report this to the apartment complex manager. He/she will have more 'clout' in reporting this to the police than you.

That doesn't pass the smell test. No cop would inform a random person walking through an apartment complex that they were undercover, and they sure as hell wouldn't make themselves so visible by sitting in a parking lot with their lights on.

Something doesn't sound right. I'd go ahead and call your local police department: explain the situation to them and let them take care of it.

Call the police and have them see if those two check out, get their plates and names, also, you should have taken the fifth amendment and not said anything or you should have told them that they are out of their juridstiction. Lastly, you have good instics but your actions were unwise, no police officer will tell you that they are undercover, that defeats the purpose. Also, if a police is undercover, he will not be wearing a uniform of any kind.

Please call the area police as soon as possible. I agree with everyone else that no officer would have told you they were undercover. Please be careful, and call the police now.
