Can a sunflower survive if surrounded by weeds?

There's this vacant lot beside our house and the owners just didn't do anything about it. Weeds are everywhere and it's becoming much of an eyesore. I want to brighten up the place by planting some wild flowers here and there all over the place....and I was thinking of sunflowers. I just want to know if sunflowers can survive in a land full of weeds (getting rid of the weeds is something I cannot do). I just sneak in and plant those flowers and at least make the place much less of an eyesore. Thanks!

If you plant the type that grow really tall they could survive, just pull a few weeds around them and apply a little plant food and they may bloom at a height above the weeds. you could also contact the lot owner and ask them to cut the weeds.

yes make sure they are the tall sun flowers, clear a patch, also sow wild flowers, no need to be to fussy when sowing, you could also plant bulbs, Daffodils etc see website for ideas
