Why do people never give details about Intel's I3, I5, and I7 chips?

There are so many people offering computer advice vice, along with people asking for buy advice and only listing that it has a I3, I5, I7 processor with out listing which model# of the I3, I5, or I7 it is. People are ALWAYS assuming the I7 is faster than an I5 an so on, but they are just dead wrong. There are I3 chips faster than I7s and I5s faster than I7s. CPU Benchmark dot net is where people should be going rather than taking advice from the so-called computer experts on here. This drives me nuts. Sorry for the rant, but people are buying a much slower computer based on this and spending way more than they need to just because it's an I7. I realize the architecture is different, but slow is slow and fast is fast.

This is largely due to advertising. Correct or not, it's easier for people to understand.

That said, within each generation and type of chip, the i3 < i5 < i7 hierarchy is usually accurate. For example, if you're comparing only 3rd generation laptop chips, or if you're comparing only 2nd generation desktop chips. This is often the case when you're shopping between computers in the same series/model line.

Because the majority of pc users didn't know for what they are and what are the true use of such cpu. Therefore to not make it difficult more than it is they tend to not tell what is the difference and the true specification of such cpu.The problem arise when someone like what you said pretend that he spent a lot of money for a good computer and if fact he /she is not happy with the performance. When someone buy a computer he has to know what usage is going to have the pc because if for gaming we need a certain pc but for home use it another story.Good point yours.

Intel® Laptop Processor Comparison Tool http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/enterprise-...

    Laptop processor benchmark comparison (Intel Core 2 X9100, X9000, T9600, T9500, P9500, T9400, T9300, P8600, P8400, T8300, T8100, P7350, Atom N270) http://optimitza.cat/news/2008/09/17/laptop-proces...

The Intel i 3 is no where as good or fast as the i7 and does not compare to the new third generation i7 processor as to speed and processing power.

Well since your such a mcgyver you can figure it out yourself! RIGHT! Benchmarks are only As reliable as the one's benchmarking. I prefer the factory standard. If you can run 4 programs at the same speed as two. why not?
